The Clinical Informatics Nurse will assist the Health Board/Trust in the development and implementation of informatics projects, such as electronic prescribing and medicines administration (ePMA). The post holder as an experienced registered nurse/midwife will be accountable to the Health Board Informatics Lead Nurse.
The post holder will assist with decision making and support the leadership and development of the standardisation and digitalisation of nursing documentation and processes, working collaboratively across the Health Board and NHS Wales with patients, carers, partners and professionals. The aim of the digitisation programmes is to improve patient care, experience and outcomes through the development of high quality agile information, systems and technologies, applying the ‘Once for Wales’ principles where relevant.
The principle objective for the post is to assist in the transformation of health service delivery, promoting new ways of working utilising information technology to improve access to clinical information and knowledge to enhance shared decision making regarding patient care. The post holder will assist the Informatics Lead Nurse in representing the organisation in setting the strategic direction and operationalisation across the health board and NHS Wales.
Key Responsibilities
- Service Management: Independently manage complex clinical and digital scenarios, support end users, and contribute to audits, surveys, and research to evaluate digital transformation impact.
- Quality Assurance & Design: Advise on data standards, interpret regulatory requirements, and assess the impact of digital systems on nursing operations and patient safety. Contribute to policy development and system testing.
- Delivery: Support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of digital nursing documentation and its integration with other systems. Collaborate with IT teams and promote system adoption.
- User Engagement: Act as a clinical resource, gather feedback from users, and facilitate workshops to inform system development and enhance patient safety.
- Leadership & Communication: Translate complex information across disciplines, represent nursing at national forums, and support communication strategies and educational sessions related to digital systems.
- Finance & Resources: Advise on digital equipment rollout, contribute to business continuity planning, and support funding bids and business case development.
- Professional Development: Deliver training programmes, evaluate their effectiveness, and demonstrate ongoing professional development in health informatics and digital programme management.
