Hywel Dda University Health Board is seeking a dedicated Specialty Doctor to join our Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (SCAMHS) and Crisis Assessment and Treatment Team (CATT). This role provides an opportunity to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care across hospital and community settings, supporting the prevention, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions in children and young people. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to responsive crisis care and ongoing management of patients.
The post includes participation in the MHLD first on-call rota, with Consultant support available at all times (on-site during working hours and off-site out of hours). Main duties of the job- Contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of a comprehensive SCAMHS service across the Health Board.
- Undertake timely and effective assessment and treatment of patients requiring urgent and acute mental health care.
- Provide clinical leadership and support to multidisciplinary team members within the service.
- Work collaboratively with clinical, medical, and managerial colleagues to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Support and participate in teaching, training, and research activities within the organisation.
- Engage in clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery.
- Maintain accurate, high-quality clinical documentation and ensure effective communication across teams.
- Monitor patient experience and respond proactively to feedback to improve care outcomes.
- Practice in line with evidence-based guidelines, including NICE and National Service Framework standards.
- Uphold professional standards in accordance with 'The Duties of a Doctor'.
- Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice.
- Valid Certified Advanced Life Support.
- Evidence of working towards membership of the Royal College.
- Participation in clinical audit (or quality improvement project) and understanding of role of audit in improving medical practice.
- Knowledge of risk management.
- Knowledge of annual job planning/appraisal review process.
- Completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis), at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or equivalent experience and competencies.
- Able to demonstrate core competencies and clinical skills relevant to the post.
- NHS Experience.
- Able to demonstrate evidence of leading a team.
- Willingness to teach all grades of professional multidisciplinary staff.
- Evidence of organising programmes and teaching medical students and resident doctors.
- Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner.
- Flexible approach to the needs of the service.
- Welsh Speaker (Level 1) – ability to communicate in Welsh desirable; training available to meet minimal requirements.
