Job Overview

As a senior employee of the Health Board the post holder will work in close co‑operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Health Board’s patients. The post holder will:

  • Be responsible for the assessment and management of patients.
  • Be expected to remain closely involved with the care of patients.
  • Provide effective clinical leadership and fully participate in the multidisciplinary team as appropriate.
  • Act as an independent expert decision maker.
  • Take part in an emergency rota if required which covers 24hrs.
  • Manage the service in/out of hours as required.

Main duties of the job

  • Maintain a high standard of note‑keeping.
  • Communicate with other staff to ensure effective patient care.
  • Promote evidence‑based clinical practice.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and carers, placing them at the centre of the care pathway.
  • Manage patients with complex needs.
  • Participate in the development of teaching, training and research within the organisation.
  • Actively participate in regular audit and research meetings and postgraduate teaching sessions held by the appropriate department.
  • Contribute senior clinical input to the modernisation, development and ongoing operational management of Ophthalmology and specialist area.
