This is a fixed term/secondment vacancy for 12-Months Senior Nurse Manager Acute Paediatrics (Band 8a) until 29/08/2027. We are delighted to offer an exceptional 12-month secondment opportunity for a Senior Nurse Manager (Band 8a) within Acute Paediatrics. This exciting role provides a unique opportunity to gain valuable operational, professional, and strategic leadership experience within a dynamic and evolving service. It is particularly suited to individuals aspiring to progress into senior nursing leadership positions and offers an excellent platform to further develop skills in service management, workforce leadership, quality improvement and operational delivery.
As Senior Nurse Manager for Acute Paediatrics, you will provide visible and effective leadership across paediatric services, supporting the delivery of high-quality, safe and compassionate care for children, young people and their families.
Main duties of the job:
- Provide visible and compassionate nursing leadership across Acute Paediatric Services.
- Act as professional lead for nursing workforce and clinical standards.
- Ensure delivery of safe, effective and patient-centred care.
- Represent the service at Health Board and regional forums.
- Lead service improvements aligned with Health Board priorities.
- Support and develop Band 7 leaders and wider nursing workforce.
The post-holder is expected to escalate promptly where there are concerns regarding:
- Patient Safety
- Serious incidents.
- Deteriorating patients.
- Safeguarding concerns.
- Medication errors.
- Staffing deficits impacting safety.
- Workforce
- Significant sickness absence.
- Performance concerns.
- Professional conduct issues.
- Inability to maintain safe staffing levels.
- Operational Pressures
- Bed capacity concerns.
- Delayed discharges.
- Unscheduled care pressures.
- Significant risks identified through RADAR or Assurance processes.
- Governance
- Non-compliance with standards.

Escalations should follow Health Board escalation policies and be reported to the General Manager, Service Director and relevant corporate teams where required.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
