Job Responsibilities

  • To share the responsibility for the acute care of Cardiology at Glangwili General Hospital and support the development and delivery of a sub‑specialty service in hospital and in the community.
  • To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements within the parameters of the Division's and Health Board's agreed objectives and to develop and deliver a comprehensive service in Cardiology.
  • To support cross‑site working and travel to other locations within the Health Board to undertake clinical activities.
  • To provide conditions for improved training opportunities in line with national and local recommendations, participate in the undergraduate teaching programme and assist with the development of postgraduate training for all appropriate staff.
  • To promote evidence‑based clinical practice and undertake regular audit.
  • To ensure the provision and delivery of a first‑class clinical service.
  • To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty.
  • To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate.
  • To undertake all work in accordance with the Health Board's procedures and operating policies.
  • To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty or the Health Board core clinical expertise in Cardiology.
  • To demonstrate experience and knowledge of running a subspecialty service, leadership and team‑building skills, and working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • To support and train multidisciplinary teams.
  • To deliver care in the community alongside primary health care and social care teams.
  • To provide persuasive strategic advice to UHBs and address the Intermediate Care Agenda.
  • To participate in CPD including audit.
  • To maintain professional development for revalidation.
  • To undertake a teaching and training role for medical undergraduates and postgraduates, including acting as educational supervisor to resident and middle‑grade medical staff.
  • To undertake regular multidisciplinary clinical audit and provide evidence‑based medicine.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge – Essential

  • Full registration and a licence to practice with the General Medical Council.
  • Valid Certified Advanced Life Support.
  • Completion of relevant Royal College examinations (or equivalent).

Qualifications and Knowledge – Desirable

  • Additional higher qualification(s).

Clinical Experience – Essential

  • Broad‑based experience within the specialty area.
  • Ability to demonstrate core competencies and clinical skills relevant to the post.
  • Experience of leading a team.

Clinical Experience – Desirable

  • Previous experience working in the UK or NHS.

Teaching – Essential

  • Ability to critically assess learning requirements for self and others.
  • Evidence of organising programmes and teaching all staff groups.
  • Willingness to teach all grades of professional multidisciplinary staff.

Teaching – Desirable

  • Teaching qualification.

Research and Scholarship – Essential

  • Demonstrates knowledge of current research and best practice in the specialty area.
  • Evidence of keeping up to date with current research and best practice.
  • Evidence of locating and using clinical guidelines appropriately.
  • Evidence of communicating and interpreting research evidence in a meaningful way.

Research and Scholarship – Desirable

  • Active participation in research.

Clinical Governance – Essential

  • Understanding of the role of Clinical Governance.
  • Participation in clinical audit (or quality improvement project) and understanding of the role of audit in improving medical practice.
  • Knowledge of annual job planning/appraisal review process.

  • Knowledge of risk management.

Safeguarding – Essential

  • Demonstrates knowledge of safeguarding requirements and takes appropriate responsibility.
  • Evidence of applying appropriate equality and diversity legislation.
