Job overview: We are delighted to offer an opportunity to join our friendly and supportive Cardiac Sciences team, delivering high-quality cardiac diagnostic services for patients across North Carmarthenshire. Our work supports people with both acute and long-term cardiac conditions and plays a key role in their ongoing care. Our services include 12‑lead ECGs, ambulatory ECG and blood pressure monitoring, echocardiography, and pacemaker implantation and follow‑up. We also host outpatient clinics for a wide range of cardiac and respiratory healthcare professionals.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual, who enjoys variety and teamwork. The role involves working flexibly across our services, supporting advanced diagnostic procedures alongside qualified staff, as well as working independently to deliver and interpret defined cardiac investigations. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Advert: Alongside your clinical responsibilities, you will take a lead role in coordinating a small team of support staff within the Glangwili Cardio‑Respiratory Department. This includes ensuring clinic and diagnostic rooms are prepared, equipment is available and maintained, and services run smoothly. You will work in partnership with a peer in Respiratory Services and will be supported by your line manager to provide first‑line supervision for the assistant team. This will include organising daily workloads and contributing to longer‑term planning to meet service demands. You will support the Clinical Physiology team in delivering safe, effective, and patient‑centred cardiac services at Glangwili Hospital. Working independently within agreed protocols, you will carry out routine cardiac investigations and interpret results, while assisting qualified staff during more complex procedures. You will help provide day‑to‑day leadership for the support staff team, working closely with your line manager. This includes organising workloads, supporting colleagues, and contributing to service improvement. You will also provide practical teaching and supervision to students and other healthcare professionals where appropriate.
Working for our organisation: Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties. We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services. We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private, and third-sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.
This post is advertised as a Band 4 and ideally candidates for this role must have achieved the Level 4 diploma relevant to the area of work: Health Care Sciences or Physiological Measurement. However, applicants who do not currently hold the qualification for the Band 4 role are encouraged to apply, and if successful, will need to attain the qualification within 24 months and will be appointed under the All Wales Annex 21 rules. The successful applicant will be supported by a development plan. Support and supervision will be provided in order to develop the successful applicant to the Band 4 role. Failure to achieve the qualification and required competencies in the designated timeframe could result in re-deployment.
The Health Board is committed to supporting its staff to fully embrace the need for bilingualism thereby enhancing patient and service user experiences. In our commitment to increase the number of staff who are able to communicate in Welsh with patients and professionals, we welcome applications from Welsh speakers. The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable for this post. If you do not meet the Welsh Language requirements specified, the Health Board offers a variety of learning options and staff support to help you meet these minimal desirable requirements during the course of your employment with us.
