We are looking for an enthusiastic Cognitive Analytic Therapist (CAT) to join our developing specialist CAT team within CAMHS. The role involves delivering high-quality CAT assessment and therapy to children and young people experiencing complex mental health difficulties, including those linked to trauma and adverse childhood experiences.

This is an excellent opportunity for both experienced and newly qualified CAT therapists who are motivated to work relationally and contribute to the growth of a specialist therapy pathway. You will work autonomously with professional support and supervision, provide CAT-informed consultation to colleagues, and help shape an expanding, trauma-informed service.

Main duties of the job:
  • Experience of working within a CAMHS setting is essential for the post.
  • Provide specialist CAT assessment and intervention for children and young people with a range of complex mental health needs.
  • Develop CAT-based formulations and treatment plans, working collaboratively with families and relevant professionals.
  • Offer CAT-informed consultation, advice and supervision to CAMHS colleagues to support shared understanding and relational practice.
  • Contribute to the development and growth of the specialist CAT pathway, including audit, research, and service improvement activities.

As a service, we offer monthly supervision from an experienced CAT therapist, as well as peer support and continuing professional activities to aid with professional development. You will be part of the psychological therapies service and therefore have access to other multi-modality therapists.

The post is based in Carmarthen; however, there will be an expectation to deliver therapy across the Hywel Dda University Health Board footprint as and when required. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification:
  • Postgraduate qualification in Cognitive Analytic Therapy to Master's level or equivalent.
  • Accreditation/Registration with ACAT as a CAT therapist.
  • Significant experience working as a psychological therapy practitioner and demonstrating the competences as required.
  • Good record of Continuing Professional Development.
  • Experience/qualification demonstrating evidence of service development and research.
  • Knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to the client group and mental health (Children's Act, Child Protection Procedures).
Experience:
  • Experience of working with children and adolescents in mental health services.
  • Ability to manage own caseload and time.
  • Experience with routine outcome monitoring.
  • Experience of teaching and liaising with other professional groups.
Language Skills:
  • Welsh Speaker (Level 1).

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

£50,129 to £57,365 a year per annum (pro rata if part time).
