The successful candidate will oversee clinical pharmacy services for the Surgical Directorate, ensuring the highest standards of care, patient experience, and operational efficiency across services.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a clinical expert delivering specialist pharmaceutical care and advice.
  • Deliver a clinical pharmacy service to surgical wards at GGH.
  • Participate in consultant ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Practice as an independent prescriber within scope of expertise, supporting patient‑centred care and timely medication access.
  • Conduct medication reviews and contribute to patient education and discharge planning.
  • Develop and implement evidence‑based policies, procedures and prescribing guidelines aligned with national and local frameworks.
  • Monitor and analyse drug expenditure across the Directorate, identify cost‑saving opportunities and promote cost‑effective prescribing practices.
  • Contribute to the education and training of pharmacy staff, medical staff, nursing teams and other healthcare professionals within the directorate.
  • Support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including supervision of pharmacy students, trainee pharmacists and foundation pharmacists during clinical rotations.
  • Supervise junior staff in quality improvement and audit activities.

Role Details: Band 8a maternity leave cover for a 12‑month period covering Surgery.
