We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to fill a part-time permanent Support Worker position in the Blood Sciences Department at Withybush General Hospital.

The successful candidate will be required to work 4.5 hours on Thursday and Friday. The post may require participation in the provision of the 7 day service to include Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday hours with appropriate pay enhancements.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be required to undertake a wide range of duties appropriate to the job role but will mainly be involved with specimen reception duties involving receipt, preparation, processing, storage and disposal of clinical laboratory specimens and samples and also the collection of blood samples by venepuncture for analysis from the wards and clinics. The post will be split between reception duties and some phlebotomy.

Full training will be provided upon commencement.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

  • Minimum 5 GCSE\'s to include Maths, English and Science @ A - D
  • Phlebotomy training certificate
  • Transfusion Pre-sampling certificate
  • NVQ level 2 or equivalent

Experience

  • Previous laboratory or phlebotomy experience
  • Experience of working in a clinical environment

Language requirement

  • Welsh Speaker (Level 1)
