This is an exciting 12 month secondment opportunity for an experienced clinical nurse specialist. The Rapid Diagnosis Clinic (RDC) provides an urgent pathway for patients with a high suspicion of cancer but displaying vague symptoms not specific to other cancer pathways. The Malignancy of Unknown Origin (MUO) service sees patients who have had a metastatic malignancy diagnosed, with no clear primary cancer identified. This post leads on both these niche cancer diagnostic services which are health board wide. The successful candidate will spend 12 months working as part of a small team, under the leadership of the Lead CNS, ensuring a seamless patient experience. While the team are based at Aman Valley Hospital, clinics are held weekly at Prince Philip Hospital and Withybush Hospital, so the ability to travel across health board sites is essential.
Main duties of the job:
- Support the weekly clinics for each service, reviewing referrals and supporting the triaging of referrals from Primary Care (RDC) and Secondary Care (MUO).
- Act as Key Worker for patients from the point of referral acceptance to onward referral or discharge, providing a point of contact and making every contact count, being considerate of the holistic needs and wellbeing of each patient during their time in the clinical pathway.
- Contribute to the provision of effective and efficient care for the two patient cohorts as an experienced registered nurse.
- Provide person-centred clinical care in the Rapid Diagnostic Centre and MUO Clinic to provide an ongoing follow-up service for patients referred until a cancer diagnosis is confirmed or excluded.
- Support patients during the breaking of bad news/give feedback of results to the patient while supporting them and their family/carers.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
