This post is a Fixed Term/Secondment until 31/05/2027 to cover maternity leave. If you are a Hywel Dda University Health Board employee and are applying for this post as a secondment, agreement for the secondment is needed from your current manager prior to application.

The Emergency & Urgent Care Centre (EUCC) is looking for a receptionist to join their team, to provide frontline administrative support in a busy emergency department and act as the first point of contact for patients, relatives and staff to ensure the smooth running of the department. The role requires you to work shift patterns to include days, nights and weekends.

Main duties of the job:

  • Register all patients accurately on arrival
  • Maintain and update patient records and systems, ensuring correct filing, tracking and transfer of patient notes
  • Answer telephone queries politely and efficiently and relay appropriate information to clinical staff
  • Refer clinical queries to nurses where necessary
  • Alert the nurse-in-charge if a patient appears acutely unwell or in distress, and report concerns about patient wellbeing promptly
  • Greet and direct patients and visitors, providing reassurance in stressful situations and handling complaints or sensitive queries appropriately
  • Work under pressure and in emergency situations, maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Work independently or as part of a team, with experience in admin/reception desirable but not always essential
  • Regular contact with patients in distress, relatives and clinical staff (nurses and doctors)
  • Ability to speak Welsh is desirable; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome

Person Specification:

Experience:

  • Essential: Recent experience in a receptionist/administrative/retail/hospitality or voluntary role with the public.
  • Desirable: Experience of face‑to‑face working with the general public, customer services, NHS experience.

Qualifications and Knowledge:

  • Essential: GCSE in English and Mathematics or NVQ 2 (or equivalent) and literacy commensurate with responsibilities.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of IT patient administration systems and hospital departments.

Other:

  • Essential: Flexible approach to the needs of the service.

Language Skills:

  • Desirable: Welsh speaker (Level 1).
