The Health Protection and Immunisation Co-ordinator for Vaccination and Sampling plays a vital role in the safe, effective, and high-quality delivery of immunisation and sampling services. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the post holder oversees day-to-day operations across varied settings, including vaccination and testing centres, patients’ homes, residential and nursing homes, clinics, and hospital environments. This requires adaptability, excellent organisational skills, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and patient care.
The Health Protection and Immunisation Co-ordinator supervises and supports the vaccination and sampling teams, ensuring staff are trained, competent, and equipped to deliver services efficiently and compassionately. The role works closely with the Lead Nurse for Health Protection and Immunisations to develop and implement a high-quality immunisation service across the Health Board, including contributing to the local delivery plan aligned with Welsh Government KPIs for service quality, coverage, and timelines.
Main duties of the job include:
- Prioritising and organising workload to ensure tasks are completed within required timescales.
- Demonstrating flexibility and sound clinical judgement, adapting to changing demands such as outbreak situations, while maintaining high standards of service and responsiveness.
- Collaborating with General Practitioners, clinicians, managers, and administrators.
- Communicating sensitive and confidential information, including patient data, immunisation uptake figures, and clinical reports.
- Providing specialist advice on vaccination and immunisation programmes to healthcare professionals and the public.
- Attending meetings with Health Board stakeholders, Public Health Wales, and HPORG, contributing to discussions that shape regional health strategies and policies.
- Reviewing protocols and advising on policy updates to improve vaccination and sampling services across the region.
- Contributing to clinical standards and ongoing service improvement within the Health Protection and Immunisation Team.
