We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Trade Compliance Manager to oversee and ensure full compliance with UK and EU import and export regulations. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years’ experience in international trade compliance, with a strong working knowledge of customs procedures, tariffs, duty management, licensing requirements, and sanctions regimes applicable across the UK and European Union. This role is critical to maintaining our operational integrity and minimizing trade compliance risks in a fast-paced, international business environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure full compliance with UK and EU import/export laws, regulations, and policies, including but not limited to UK HMRC, EU customs codes, dual-use regulations, and sanctions regimes.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all trade compliance matters across the UK and EU.
- Develop, implement, and maintain trade compliance programs, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), risk assessments, and internal audits.
- Manage customs classifications (HS codes), valuation, country of origin determinations, and duty relief schemes (e.g., Inward Processing Relief).
- Support the preparation, submission, and collection of import/export declarations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness through brokers.
- Collaborate with procurement, logistics, finance, and legal teams to address and resolve trade compliance issues.
- Keep the organization updated on relevant changes to legislation and regulatory requirements in UK and EU jurisdictions.
- Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on trade compliance policies and procedures.
- Liaise with external authorities (e.g., HMRC, EU customs, government agencies) as needed.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in trade compliance, specifically in UK and EU import/export regulations.
- Strong knowledge of relevant laws, including Union Customs Code (UCC), UK Global Tariff, and EU dual-use regulations.
- Experience with customs documentation, tariff classification, and broker management.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to work cross-functionally.
- Proactive mindset and attention to detail.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Supply Chain, Law, Business, or a related field; professional trade compliance certifications (e.g., CUSECO, CCS, IIEI) are a plus.
