About the Portfolio: Investing in African Mining Indaba is the world’s largest and most prestigious mining investment CONFEX, hosting Heads of State, Government Ministers, C‑level mining executives and investors. The event is a world leader and has been the must attend event for the African mining community for over 30 years. The show welcomes over 10,500 delegates, 230+ exhibitors, over 50 sponsors from over 122 countries across the mining value chain and over 600 speakers.

About the role: Mining Indaba is evolving beyond an annual convening into a year‑round coordination platform operating at the intersection of government engagement, capital mobilisation, strategic minerals and African industrialisation. The Senior Manager, Government & Institutional Partnerships will play a central role in operationalising this evolution by driving structured ministerial engagement, strengthening cross‑functional integration and embedding disciplined institutional processes across the government engagement lifecycle. Combining strategic stakeholder management, sovereign engagement coordination, operational governance, and ecosystem integration, this individual will act as the primary coordination point between the Government & Institutional Partnerships function and wider internal teams including Sales, Content, Marketing, Operations and Registration. The successful candidate will be highly structured, politically aware and capable of operating effectively in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments involving governments, DFIs, institutional investors and senior private sector leaders.

  • Ministerial & Institutional Engagement Management:
    • Own structured tracking of ministerial and senior government engagement across the annual cycle
    • Maintain detailed stakeholder mapping frameworks across priority jurisdictions
    • Track engagement progression and relationship continuity across ministries, institutions and strategic partners
    • Support the development of multi‑year country engagement pathways aligned to Mining Indaba’s broader strategic priorities
    • Deepen cross‑ministry engagement beyond traditional mining portfolios, including Energy, Infrastructure, Finance and Industry ministries
  • Government Coordination & Protocol Management:
    • Lead invitation strategy and formal ministerial correspondence processes
    • Ensure consistency of protocol, positioning and senior stakeholder management standards
    • Coordinate briefing processes for senior government stakeholders and institutional partners
    • Maintain visibility over diplomatic sensitivities, escalation pathways and relationship continuity
  • Cross‑Functional Integration:
    • Serve as the primary integration point between Government & Institutional Partnerships and Sales, Content, Marketing & Communications, Operations, Registration
    • Ensure government‑related workflows are clearly owned, aligned and operationally executable
    • Reduce duplication, reactive escalation and last‑minute delivery risk through disciplined coordination structures
    • Support integration of government priorities into broader event delivery and strategic programming
  • Reporting, Documentation & Institutional Governance:
    • Maintain structured engagement documentation systems and reporting frameworks
    • Ensure data integrity, disciplined record‑keeping and visibility across institutional relationships
    • Produce structured reporting for senior leadership highlighting country‑level progression, engagement gaps, institutional risks and strategic opportunities
    • Contribute to the development of institutional memory frameworks that reduce key‑person dependency
    • Coordinate ministerial engagement delivery during Mining Indaba and associated events
    • Establish clear accountability structures for government‑related on‑site execution
    • Support escalation management and cross‑functional coordination during live event operations
    • Improve operational predictability and reduce reactive firefighting across ministerial workflows
  • Strategic Focus Areas:
    • Structured Country Progression Supporting multi‑year country engagement pathways and institutional continuity
    • Capital Mobilisation Alignment Strengthening the interface between sovereign priorities, investment dialogue and financing ecosystems
    • Ministerial Symposium Integration Supporting delivery of the Symposium as a coordinated government‑led strategic platform
    • Function Sustainability Embedding systems, reporting structures and operational governance to strengthen long‑term platform defensibility
