A bit about the role: This role reports to the VP, Global Retailers & Consumer Brands. About Shoptalk: Shoptalk is the home of innovation and transformation in retail. Our global shows bring together the world’s most influential retailers, consumer brands, technology players, investors and analysts, equipping them with the tools, skills and connections to gain and maintain the upper hand, driving growth and inspiring a mindset to reimagine tomorrow’s digital innovations both in-store and online. Across our expanding portfolio, including Shoptalk, Shoptalk Europe, Shoptalk Fall, Shoptalk Luxe and Groceryshop, we now run five in-person shows globally. Each event focuses on a particular subset of the retail ecosystem, whether by region, vertical or dynamic, while always delivering the unmistakable energy and quality of a flagship Shoptalk experience. Key Purpose
Retailers and consumer brands are at the heart of everything we do at Shoptalk. As our most critical customer segment, we are building a global team to provide them with an elevated, personalised and VIP experience across all Shoptalk and Groceryshop events. We are seeking a performance driven Director, Retailers & Consumer Brands – EMEA to lead the strategic delivery of R&CB attendance and engagement across Shoptalk Europe and Shoptalk Luxe. This role will operate in close partnership with the VP, Global Retailers & Consumer Brands and the US counterpart to drive growth in R&CB attendance, increase seniority and the volume of high value gold dust delegates, and expand paid R&CB ticket revenue across the EMEA portfolio. This is a leadership position managing a high performing team of 4 to 6 direct reports, responsible for their development, performance and overall success.
As part of your job, you’ll be:
- Strategic Leadership and Portfolio Delivery
- Leading the end-to-end R&CB strategy and delivery for Shoptalk Europe and Shoptalk Luxe, ensuring alignment with the wider global Shoptalk brand portfolio.
- Working in close collaboration with the US R&CB leadership and the VP, Global Retailers & Consumer Brands, to drive year over year growth in total R&CB attendance, the seniority and quality of gold dust delegates and paid R&CB ticket revenue.
- Contributing to shaping global R&CB strategy, supporting consistency of processes, messaging and attendee experience across all Shoptalk shows.
- Taking the lead on new initiatives where R&CB is central, including invite-only events, executive roadshows and other community-led programmes designed to drive deeper engagement and elevate Shoptalk’s market position.
- Managing a team of 4 to 6 R&CB professionals, providing coaching, performance management, goal setting and professional development.
- Championing excellence in reporting, analytical capability and data literacy, including trend identification, forecasting and developing plans to support audience growth.
- Fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and high customer service standards.
- Attendee Acquisition and Account Management
- Planning and executing targeted attendee acquisition strategies on an account and vertical basis, focused on senior retail and consumer brand executives.
- Managing a personal account list and delivering weekly and monthly acquisition targets across both Hosted Programme delegates and paid R&CB attendees.
- Building, maintaining and leveraging a strong personal network (‘black book’) of senior retail and consumer brand executives, establishing a credible personal brand in the market that strengthens Shoptalk’s year-round reach and influence.
- Oversee high-quality outreach strategies, including messaging, copywriting and template creation for department-wide use.
- Content Partnership and Market Insight
- Working closely with the Content team to ensure the agenda reflects the priorities, challenges and growth opportunities emerging from R&CB conversations.
- Providing market insight that helps shape agendas designed to attract key growth verticals and deepen engagement with senior retail and consumer brand leaders.
- Developing a strong understanding of content-led drivers for each sector and ensuring R&CB insights are effectively integrated into programme planning.
- Operations, Reporting and Process Excellence
- Creating and maintaining attendance trackers by event, ensuring accurate data management and delivery of weekly reporting.
- Monitoring and optimising registration pipelines for Hosted and networking programmes and developing contingency plans when necessary.
- Partner with Marketing and Data teams to refine prospecting strategy and accelerate new business recruitment.
- Being a champion of CRM integration and an influencer in supporting the right technology stack for the department, ensuring effective utilisation and alignment to business needs.
- Supporting workflow optimisation, process documentation and technology adoption across the R&CB function.
- Managing an annual travel budget for the team to maximize in-person relationship building at Shoptalk roadshows and competing events.
- Cross Functional Collaboration
- Partnering with the VP, Global Attendee Experience, on retention strategies, Hosted Programme delivery and timeline management.
- Working closely with global leadership to ensure cross-departmental coordination on key initiatives, including onsite R&CB activations, marketing, content and pilot programmes.
- Promoting a shared culture of product integrity, customer centricity and community building.
Skills and Experience Required
- Minimum 10 years in targeted, performance-led commercial roles.
- Minimum 5 years of leadership experience managing and developing high-performing teams.
- Background in account management within events or the retail sector preferred.
- Proven sales ability with exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent process management skills with the ability to set teams up for success through structured workflows and playbooks.
- Confident presenter comfortable engaging C-suite executives and pitching strategic initiatives.
- Passion for developing teams, contributing to admired products and fostering community within the retail and consumer brand ecosystem.
- Strong understanding of retail and consumer brand industry trends and market activity.
- Ability to translate sector insights into strategies that support content development, attendee acquisition and the attraction of key growth verticals.
- Proficiency with CRM and prospecting systems such as HubSpot, ZoomInfo and similar tools.
- Advanced Excel capability, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP and data manipulation.
- Highly analytical, detail-oriented and accurate in handling large sets of data.
- Self-motivated, curious and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-growth, entrepreneurial environment.
