A bit about the role: Through our market-leading events, the Energy Transition portfolio is playing a pivotal role in the sustainable socio-economic development of Africa and beyond. The continent’s abundance of natural resources presents unrivalled opportunities at Mining Indaba and 121 to meet global energy demands and facilitate a just energy transition. Working with our global communities, we create and facilitate business that inspire industries to develop and deliver a more sustainable world for us all. We’re now looking for a dynamic, solutions-focused Account Manager to join our retention team and nurture our customers for long-term partnership success and grow revenues across the Mining Indaba event campaign with a focus on sponsorship as well as exhibition products.

  • Work within the retention team, with a strong focus on retaining customers and delivering customer success throughout the full show cycle.
  • Develop and execute new commercial opportunities to drive sustainable revenue growth.
  • Manage customer enquiries and requests promptly, professionally and with a solutions-focused approach.
  • Ensure full understanding of clients’ business objectives/requirements as well as ROI/ROT.
  • Craft clearly written solution-based proposals built upon prospective client business objectives.
  • Work closely with relevant internal teams to craft impactful sponsorship opportunities, including content, marketing, operations and client relations.
  • Collaborate closely with the wider sales team to ensure alignment, consistency and a unified Mining Indaba approach.
  • Increase knowledge of the African Mining landscape to better understand client needs through research partners and independent research.
  • Drive upsell initiatives to increase Average Order Value (AOV).
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with customers and multiple stakeholders if appropriate.
  • Work cross-functionally with internal teams to align and deliver business growth initiatives.
  • Represent Mining Indaba at industry events, networking with thought leaders, partners and key decision-makers.
  • Accurately maintain CRM records and be accountable for activity performance, pipeline and revenue forecasts.
  • Travel as required to support client meetings, events and wider business needs to fulfil the role.

Here’s what we’re looking for from you:

  • Experience working in a fast-paced sales, account management, or customer-focused environment.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills to support contract renewals and account discussions.
  • The ability to build, nurture and maintain long-term customer relationships to maximise retention and account value.
  • A good understanding of customer needs with the ability to support account growth opportunities.
  • An interest in the African Mining sector, with relevant experience considered an advantage.
  • The ability to contribute to account plans and retention strategies that deliver measurable outcomes.
  • Clear and confident written and verbal communication skills, including presenting information to a range of stakeholders.
  • Experience working towards targets or OKRs with a proactive and results-driven mindset.
