ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for an Event Director to lead the creation, production and delivery of Shoptalk Europe. This role will have ownership of the event's revenue and margin, as well as overseeing all aspects of the show. You will work in partnership with global leaders and managers across sales, marketing, logistics and our Hosted Retailer Programme. You will bring all parts of the team together through project plans and weekly meetings.
The ideal candidate is customer-focused and has experience managing fast-growing, agile teams and projects. You'll be involved in P&L decisions, running the project plan, maximising growth opportunities and developing the Shoptalk product to be the best it can be.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Project & Team Management
You will be a confident, skilled and inspiring leader who is always willing to get involved rather than simply delegate.
You will manage the overall project plan, ensuring that marketing, sales, logistics and Hosted Retailer recruitment plans are both ambitious and achievable. You will lead project sprints, where the team works towards a clearly defined goal and everyone pushes in the same direction.
Whilst we have a project plan, we expect it to evolve weekly as we work in a flexible and customer-centric way to ensure we are always delivering the best possible product to our customers.
Commercial Accountability
  • You will take ownership of the event's revenue, including sponsorship, exhibition, Hosted Retailer and delegate ticket revenue. You will work closely with the sales team to ensure we are maximising revenue opportunities.
  • You will run sales reports, manage pipelines and liaise with the sales team.
  • You will support the sales team in selling high-value sponsorship packages to international technology companies.
  • You will manage sponsor inventory, maintain available opportunities for sale and develop new and innovative sponsorship opportunities.

Product Management & Development
  • You will continually seek ways to improve our product. You will be curious, innovative, brave and considered in your approach to new ideas and improvements. This could include new pricing models, content formats, sponsorship inventory or partnerships.

Business Development
  • You will create new partnerships and relationships with key industry associations, groups and individuals to help grow Shoptalk.

P&L Management
  • You will manage the P&L, including accurate cost reporting, managing individual team budgets, forecasting revenue and maintaining trackers.
  • Revenue forecasting: You will forecast revenue (both sponsorship and delegate revenue)on a monthly basis. You will review existing forecasts and produce forecasts for the following month.

ABOUT YOU
  • A strong understanding of the European retail ecosystem, including key players, companies, trends and themes.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience leading teams.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in complex project management and delivery.
  • Experience of owning and exceeding commercial targets (revenue and profit).
  • A background in events is beneficial but not essential.
