The Senior Simulator Engineer is responsible for leading the development, operation, and optimization of Hyundai Motor Group Racing's driver-in-the-loop (DIL) simulation environment. The role plays a key part in vehicle development, performance optimization, driver evaluation, and simulation correlation activities across racing programs.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the operation, development, and continuous improvement of simulation systems, including AVL VSM Race.
  • Manage and optimize Dynisma driving simulator performance and reliability.
  • Develop advanced vehicle dynamics models and simulation workflow using Matlab/Simulink.
  • Configure and maintain simulation environments using: PTWinSim, RaceCon, SimHub.
  • Lead simulation correlation activities between virtual and track/test data.
  • Support race engineering and vehicle dynamics teams through high-quality simulator preparation and analysis.
  • Develop and validate simulation methodologies, tools, and KPIs.
  • Oversee simulator session preparation, execution, and post-session reporting.
  • Troubleshoot complex simulator, software, integration issues.
  • Collaborate with software, controls, and systems engineering teams to improve simulation fidelity and real-time performance.
  • Contribute to the development of future simulator technologies and workflows.
  • Mentor and support junior simulator engineers and interns.
  • Ensure documentation standards and technical processes are maintained across simulation activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Motorsport Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Significant experience in vehicle simulation, motorsport engineering, or DIL simulation environment (min. 5 yrs).
  • Advanced experience with: AVL VSM Race, Matlab/Simulink, PWTinSim, RaceCon, SimHub.
  • Strong understanding of: Vehicle dynamics, tire modeling, real-time simulation systems, Driver-in-the-loop simulation technologies.
  • Experience operating or developing Dynisma or equivalent simulator systems.
  • Familiarity with graphical simulation environments such as rFpro.
  • Strong data analysis and correlation capabilities.
  • Experience with scripting/programming (MATLAB, Python, or similar).
  • Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.

Preferred:

  • Motorsport or high-performance vehicle development experience.
  • Experience supporting race weekends, test events, or performance simulation programs.
  • Knowledge of HIL/SIL/DIL integration environments.
  • Familiarity with controls systems and vehicle calibration processes.
  • Experience managing technical projects or leading engineering activities.
  • Understanding of simulation infrastructure, network, and real-time computing systems.
