We are currently seeking a Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager to join our team at our Craigavon facility in Northern Ireland.
About the Role
Reporting to the Plant Manager, this position will be responsible for providing EHS expertise at the location facility and managing the various aspects of the EHS function with specific focus on driving improved results. This position is responsible for the identification of risk factors, the risk assessment, definition of measures for the safety and health of the workplace and the development, as far as it is concerned, of preventive and protective measures. This position is also focused on identification, development and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives and programs through process-driven thinking, trend analysis and data-driven problem solving while ensuring we are meeting all EHS, ISO14001, ISO 45001 and relevant regulations and requirements.
This position holds a specialized expertise in EHS compliance and is responsible for educating and influencing all levels of staff, including top leadership, at their facility regarding EHS legal requirements to ensure the facility not only meets all areas of compliance and drives improved EHS results but also plays a key role in current and future strategy development.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing while providing leadership and/or coordination for the improvement of site’s Environmental Management System (EMS)/Safety Management System (SMS).
- Manage mandatory and voluntary EHS audits of facilities and systems to verify compliance with all existing EHS policies and compliance to ISO14001/ISO45001 and relevant regulations and requirements.
- Collaborate and promote Employee health and safety performance initiatives through developing and maintaining strategic health and safety systems, policies and procedures, campaigns and programs with the goal of preventing occupational injuries and the reduction in unsafe conditions and behaviours, and adverse environmental impact.
- Manage EHS aspects, impacts and programs; assuring a safe and healthy workplace that is compliant with all applicable EHS policies, ISO, ISO14001/ISO45001 and relevant regulations and requirements.
- Manage and work collaboratively with affected support organizations (i.e., Facilities, Maintenance, Security, etc.) on safety and environmental initiatives and activities.
- Maintain necessary EHS reporting and communications to HYG Division EHS.
- Facilitate site Emergency Response Team activities.
- Interface with site liability insurance partner/s.
- Handling of all employers’ liability and public liability claims.
- Stay aware of industry EHS trends and EHS regulatory requirements.
- Periodical inspections in the production departments and risks management of the event, aimed at identifying the corrective measures necessary to avoid the recurrence of the event itself.
Essential Criteria
- B.S. degree in related discipline (Occupational Safety, Safety Sciences, Environmental Engineering and/or other Engineering degree).
- Master’s degree preferred (Occupational Safety, Safety Sciences, Environmental Engineering and/or other Engineering degree).
- In lieu of Degree, 3rd level education along with + 5 / 7 years of relevant H&S management experience required.
- Training and certification required by HSE and other statutory bodies for the execution of duties.
- 7+ years of Environmental, Health & Safety experience, including previous leadership/management experience, preferably within a large manufacturing/engineering organisation.
- Experience with the development of EHS metrics, regulatory compliance initiatives, professional development and retention strategies.
- Specialized knowledge of environmental health and safety regulations.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of sound practices regarding ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and ISO45001 Occupational Safety Management Systems (SMS).
- Excellent Leadership, Analytical, Facilitation, Communication, Negotiation (verbal and written), Problem Solving and Organizational Skills.
- Excellent PC software application skills.
