This is an excellent opportunity to join a business delivering high-quality HVAC projects across the commercial sector. As an AHU Commissioning Engineer, you will take ownership of the commissioning process from initial planning through to final handover, ensuring Air Handling Units (AHUs) and associated HVAC systems operate safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with project specifications and industry standards. This role is ideal for an experienced commissioning professional who enjoys solving technical challenges, working closely with project teams, and delivering exceptional results for clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the commissioning of commercial HVAC and Air Handling Unit (AHU) systems across a variety of projects.
  • Review technical drawings, specifications, and commissioning documentation to ensure systems are installed in accordance with design intent.
  • Develop and implement commissioning plans, programmes, and testing procedures.
  • Inspect installations to verify compliance with manufacturer guidance, project specifications, and current industry regulations.
  • Carry out comprehensive commissioning activities including:
    • Functional performance testing
    • Airflow measurement and balancing
    • Temperature and pressure verification
    • Controls validation
    • System optimisation
  • Commission and validate the integration of HVAC systems with BMS, electrical services, and associated building systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve commissioning issues, ensuring all defects are rectified prior to project completion.
  • Optimise system performance to maximise energy efficiency, reliability, and occupant comfort.
  • Produce detailed commissioning reports, test certificates, and project documentation.
  • Deliver client demonstrations and provide operational training to facilities management teams.
  • Support project teams during handover and provide technical expertise throughout the commissioning process.
  • Work collaboratively with project managers, consultants, contractors, and clients to achieve successful project delivery.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for an engineer who combines strong technical expertise with a proactive and customer-focused approach.

Essential

  • Proven experience commissioning commercial HVAC systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Air Handling Units (AHUs).
  • Excellent understanding of HVAC controls, airflow balancing, testing, and validation.
  • Experience interpreting technical drawings and Installation, Operation & Maintenance (IOM) manuals.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Desirable

  • Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP) qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience working on large commercial, healthcare, pharmaceutical, industrial, or mission-critical projects.
  • Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Understanding of current HVAC legislation, commissioning standards, and energy efficiency best practice.
