The Consents Manager will play a key role in ensuring the successful delivery of projects by managing environmental compliance, sustainability performance, and statutory consents. Working closely with project teams, clients, stakeholders, regulators, and supply chain partners, the role will drive best practice in environmental management, support the achievement of sustainability objectives, and ensure compliance with legal, client, and industry standards. The position requires a proactive individual who can operate effectively in a dynamic construction environment and contribute to both project success and wider business sustainability goals.
Responsibilities
- Lead the management of all project-related secondary consents and approvals, ensuring timely applications, tracking, and compliance.
- Develop, maintain, and regularly report on the project consents register.
- Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, planning conditions, permits, and relevant management system standards, including ISO 14001 and ISO 50001.
- Facilitate and support internal and external environmental audits and inspections.
- Monitor environmental performance and ensure project activities align with client, stakeholder, and regulatory requirements.
- Support the development and implementation of sustainability strategies across projects and the wider business.
- Promote sustainable design and construction practices, identifying opportunities to improve environmental performance, reduce impacts, and deliver greater value.
- Assist project teams, designers, and engineers in identifying and implementing sustainable materials and innovative solutions.
- Support the achievement of CEEQUAL and other environmental or sustainability accreditation schemes.
- Develop and maintain environmental and sustainability KPIs, ensuring effective measurement, reporting, and continuous improvement.
- Prepare regular reports on environmental and sustainability performance for project teams and senior management.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with clients, local authorities, regulators, framework partners, and other key stakeholders.
- Represent the business in stakeholder meetings, forums, and industry discussions where required.
- Collaborate with project teams and supply chain partners to ensure environmental and sustainability objectives are achieved within agreed timescales.
- Support community engagement initiatives in partnership with public liaison and stakeholder management teams.
- Develop and deliver environmental and sustainability communications, including guidance documents, training materials, alerts, newsletters, and awareness campaigns.
- Share best practices, lessons learned, and project success stories across the business through case studies and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Work closely with procurement teams to drive sustainability improvements throughout the supply chain.
- Contribute to business development activities, including pre-qualification questionnaires (PQQs), tenders, and bid submissions.
- Identify opportunities for personal and professional development to continually enhance expertise and add value to the business.
Ideal Candidate
- Proven experience in environmental management, sustainability, or consents management within construction, infrastructure, engineering, or a related sector.
- Strong understanding of environmental legislation, planning processes, and environmental management systems.
- Knowledge of sustainability frameworks and accreditation schemes such as CEEQUAL, ISO 14001, and ISO 50001.
- Experience managing stakeholder relationships, including clients, regulators, local authorities, and supply chain partners.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and reporting skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Proactive problem-solver with a continuous improvement mindset and a passion for sustainability.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic construction environment, including site visits and occasional out-of-hours commitments.
- Relevant environmental or sustainability qualifications and professional membership (or working towards membership) would be advantageous.
