Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to lead the execution and delivery of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in the United Kingdom. This role will take full ownership of the entire project lifecycle, from project kickoff through engineering coordination, EPC interface management, site execution, commissioning, grid energization, and final handover. The successful candidate will work closely with UK clients, EPC partners, DNO / National Grid stakeholders, and internal cross-functional teams, while also acting as a key bridge with China HQ engineering, supply chain, and management teams. Candidates with prior experience from Sungrow, BYD, Envision, CATL, Fluence, Wärtsilä, Tesla Energy, or leading renewable EPC companies are strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-End Project Delivery
    • Lead utility-scale BESS projects from NTP to PAC/FAC
    • Own project schedule, milestones, budget, and delivery quality
    • Ensure project execution meets contractual obligations and customer expectations
  • Stakeholder & EPC Coordination
    • Coordinate with clients / project owners
    • EPC contractors and subcontractors
    • DNO / National Grid stakeholders
    • Engineering and commissioning teams
    • Serve as the primary escalation point for project execution issues
  • China HQ Cross-functional Collaboration
    • Work closely with China HQ on engineering clarifications and design changes
    • Manufacturing and delivery schedule
    • Logistics coordination
    • Commissioning resource planning
    • Technical issue escalation
    • Bridge communication between UK local stakeholders and HQ teams
  • Commercial & Contract Management
    • Manage variation orders
    • Scope changes
    • Claims and recovery plans
    • Liquidated damages (LD) risks
    • Support contract execution and commercial negotiations during project delivery
  • Site Execution, HSE & Commissioning
    • Oversee site construction progress, HSE compliance, and quality control
    • Coordinate installation, commissioning, grid energization, and performance testing
    • Drive rapid issue resolution during critical execution stages
  • Reporting & Leadership Communication
    • Provide regular reporting to EMEA leadership and HQ, including progress updates, risk registers, cost deviations, customer escalations, mitigation and recovery plans

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Project Management
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the energy storage industry, or minimum 5 years of experience in B2B project delivery
  • Proven track record in MW/MWh-scale renewable or power projects

Technical Capability

  • Strong knowledge of UK DNO / National Grid environment
  • EPC project delivery
  • Commissioning and grid compliance
  • CDM / HSE standards
  • Strong schedule, cost, and risk management skills

Language

  • Fluent English is mandatory
  • Chinese language skills are highly preferred to facilitate efficient communication with China HQ and technical teams
