About the role and the Team:

In this role, you will identify and deliver significant savings across the Access and Aggregation network, influence future network design and investment decisions and ensure infrastructure keeps pace with business expansion. Working closely with senior stakeholders, Data Centre partners, and Openreach, you'll have a direct impact on key business objectives, including EBITDA performance and long-term growth plans, while gaining exposure to executive leadership.

What will you be doing?

  • Drive cost efficiency (principally) across the Access and Aggregation network layers.
  • Understand the cost drivers particularly across the Access & Aggregation portions of the network, understand how decisions taken on one area can drive efficiency/costs in another.
  • Work with other stakeholders to optimize spend across the network area as a whole to ensure overall efficiency.
  • Develop (or support the development) business cases which optimize overall spend.
  • Manage functional expertise across PON, Network Facilities, & Physical Design teams.
  • PON Architecture – ensure that guidance on the use of PON fiber within Hyperoptic is clearly documented and suitably “down streamed” to those involved in planning and execution.
  • Use the PON team expertise to make full use of Hyperoptic assets (where cost effective replacing third party assets and hence reducing overall costs).
  • Planning and Network Facilities Management – manage the relationships with Data Centre partners and BT Openreach (in relation to space, power and cross connects), maintain sufficient capacity to support growth while controlling costs.
  • Report on Capacity utilization (particularly Access & Aggregation backhaul, but also Peering & Transit plus other elements), identifying and initiating action to avoid capacity bottlenecks.
  • Physical Design – maintain detailed documentation of equipment deployment at exchanges and within Data Centers. Ensure that equipment is deployed with adequate consideration taken for power and cooling. Strive to define standards that drive “best practice”.
  • Develop the people within your team to maintain the appropriate skills mix across the group.

What we are looking for:

  • Degree/HND or equivalent qualification in a relevant Telecommunications discipline, and/or equivalent experience - DESIRABLE.
  • Previous experience of working in telecommunications industry in the UK (broadband experience preferred but not essential).
  • Creating and managing budgets.
  • Practical experience working planning deployment of optical network or active telecoms equipment.
  • Prior experience working with Openreach (knowledge of LLU preferred) and major Data Centre providers - DESIRABLE.
  • Commercially astute, able to identify TCO and compare benefits between different options.
  • Able to understand the key points from contracts and agreements.
  • Confident presenting to Exec level and negotiating with external suppliers.

Some of our key Benefits:

  • Global Remote working for up to 2 weeks per year for those who are able to work remotely.
  • 25 days' paid holiday increasing each year, to a max of 35.
  • Extra days off for your birthday, moving home, wedding/civil partnership and to volunteer.
  • Private medical Insurance provided by AXA health.
  • Life assurance giving you cover of 4 times your base salary.
  • Partnership with the Kings Trust.
  • Our pension scheme matches your contributions up to 4%.
  • Retail offers — discounts from hundreds of recognisable brands.
  • Free Hyperoptic broadband if you live in a Hyperoptic area.
  • Enhanced pay for new parents.
