About the Role

Responsible for rationalising costs across the Access & Aggregation network, identifying opportunities to re-arrange existing deployments to reduce costs in the near to medium term. Work with stakeholders to ensure that guidance used for new network deployments is cost effective over the medium to long term. Forecast and initiate upgrades needed to the network to keep pace with the company’s growth plans. Manage the relationship with Data Centre partners and with Openreach for the provision of space, power and interconnects. Report on capacity utilisation and identify and initiate action to avoid bottlenecks.

What you will be doing

  • Drive cost efficiency across the Access and Aggregation network layers.
  • Understand cost drivers and how decisions in one area affect overall efficiencies.
  • Work with stakeholders to optimise spend across the network to ensure overall efficiency.
  • Develop or support the development of business cases that optimise overall spend.
  • Manage functional expertise across PON, Network Facilities, & Physical Design teams.
  • PON Architecture – ensure guidance on the use of PON fibre is clearly documented and disseminated; use the PON team expertise to maximise the use of Hyperoptic assets and reduce costs.
  • Planning and Network Facilities Management – manage relationships with Data Centre partners and BT Openreach; maintain sufficient capacity to support growth while controlling costs; report on capacity utilisation.
  • Physical Design – maintain detailed documentation of equipment deployment; ensure equipment is deployed with adequate consideration for power and cooling; define standards that drive best practice.
  • Develop the people within the team to maintain the appropriate skills mix.

What We Are Looking For

  • Degree/HND or equivalent qualification in a relevant Telecommunications discipline, and/or equivalent experience – DESIRABLE.
  • ITIL qualification – DESIRABLE.
  • Previous experience in the telecommunications industry in the UK (broadband experience preferred).
  • Experience creating and managing budgets.
  • Practical experience in planning deployment of optical network or active telecoms equipment.
  • Prior experience working with Openreach (knowledge of LLU) and major Data Centre providers – DESIRABLE.
  • Commercially astute, able to identify TCO and compare benefits between different options; able to understand key points from contracts and agreements.
  • Confident presenting to Executive level and negotiating with external suppliers.
