About Hyperlayer

Hyperlayer is the intelligent banking platform built for the agentic economy: the financial control layer that sits above banks' existing cores, enabling next-generation Smart Accounts, without ripping anything out. From a single integration, we give financial institutions a secure rules and orchestration engine that lets them design, launch and scale hyper-personalised products in weeks while preserving stability, compliance and control. And there's nothing like us anywhere in the world.

About Hyperlayer

Hyperlayer works with Tier 1 and Tier 2 FIs across the UK, US, EMEA and Hong Kong, with an award-winning UK consumer app (HyperJar) sitting in the group. We're creating the fintech category that every bank in the world needs: programmable, governed, agent-ready accounts. Your job is to make sure our audiences know that.

About The Role

  • We're hiring a Test Automation Engineer to help build and scale the automated testing that keeps the Hyperlayer platform reliable as we ship fast. This is a hands‑on engineering role, writing and maintaining automation frameworks in the codebase, not just executing test plans.
  • You’ll bring AI into how testing is done day to day, using AI-assisted tools to generate, maintain and triage tests faster, and helping the wider QA team adopt the same practices.
  • You’ll report into the Head of Solution Architecture & QA and work closely with engineering and product teams across the platform.
  • This role is predominantly office-based in Paddington, London.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, build and maintain automated test suites across API and, where relevant, UI layers, with a strong focus on the reliability of Hyperlayer’s payment flows.
  • Use AI‑assisted tools (e.g. Copilot, Claude, or similar) to accelerate test case generation, test data creation, and framework maintenance, while keeping test quality and coverage high.
  • Explore and introduce AI‑driven testing techniques, such as self‑healing test scripts, intelligent test selection, and automated defect triage, where they add real value.
  • Embed automated tests into CI/CD pipelines so failures are caught early and quality signal reaches engineers quickly.
  • Write clean, maintainable, production‑quality framework code, not just one‑off scripts.
  • Investigate test failures and flaky tests, working with engineers to fix root causes rather than just patching symptoms.
  • Contribute to test strategy and coverage decisions for new services and features, partnering with engineering leads early in design.
  • Share AI‑testing practices and tooling knowledge with the wider QA team, helping raise the bar on automation across the function.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Solid hands‑on experience building and maintaining test automation frameworks, ideally including API‑level testing (e.g. REST Assured, Postman/Newman, or similar).
  • Strong coding ability in at least one language commonly used for test automation (e.g. Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, or Golang).
  • Practical experience using AI tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT) to write, review, or maintain code and tests, with a genuine interest in applying AI to testing problems.
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and how automated testing integrates with them (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar).
  • Comfortable working in a fast‑moving engineering environment, balancing speed with the rigour needed when testing financial systems.
  • Willing and able to be in our London office four days per week.

Desirable

  • Experience in fintech, payments, or another regulated financial services environment.
  • Exposure to AI‑driven or self‑healing test tooling (e.g. Testim, Mabl, Applitools) or to prompt engineering for test generation.
  • Exposure to UI automation frameworks (Playwright, Selenium, Cypress).
  • Experience with non‑functional or performance testing (JMeter, Gatling, k6).
  • Familiarity with payment schemes, ISO 20022, card processing, or open banking.

We will not be offering UK work visa sponsorship for these roles. Candidates will need an existing non-sponsored right to work in the UK.
