About Hyperlayer
Hyperlayer is the intelligent banking platform built for the agentic economy: the financial control layer that sits above banks' existing cores, enabling next-generation Smart Accounts, without ripping anything out. From a single integration, we give financial institutions a secure rules and orchestration engine that lets them design, launch and scale hyper-personalised products in weeks while preserving stability, compliance and control. And there's nothing like us anywhere in the world.
Hyperlayer works with Tier 1 and Tier 2 FIs across the UK, US, EMEA and Hong Kong, with an award-winning UK consumer app (HyperJar) sitting in the group. We're creating the fintech category that every bank in the world needs: programmable, governed, agent-ready accounts. Your job is to make sure our audiences know that.
About The Role
We're looking for a Test Automation Engineer to join our Engineering team and help us scale test coverage across Hyperlayer's platform and orchestration engine as well as HyperJar, our consumer app. You'll be hands-on across the full testing lifecycle - planning, building and maintaining automated suites across API, web and mobile - and work closely with engineers to build testability and quality into features from the design stage. As we grow, we expect this role to take on more ownership of our automation strategy and tooling, including how we use AI to speed up test creation and maintenance, and to help set the standard for quality across a platform that banks and financial institutions rely on.
This is an office-based role, with regular in-person collaboration in the office.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse and decompose complex software systems, collaborating with engineers to influence design and testability from the outset.
- Design, build and maintain automated test suites across API, web and mobile (e.g. Playwright, Cypress, Appium or similar), replacing manual regression with reliable automation.
- Use AI-assisted tools to speed up test case generation, test data creation and maintenance of automation suites as the platform evolves.
- Integrate test cycles into our CI/CD pipelines so quality checks run automatically on every change.
- Identify critical, high-risk and repetitive test scenarios and prioritise them for automation.
- Explore non-functional testing areas relevant to a regulated fintech platform - performance, security and accessibility.
- Work creatively and efficiently to troubleshoot and resolve production issues, working closely with engineering to get to root cause.
- Contribute to API contract and integration testing across our orchestration engine and the services we expose to banking and financial services clients.
- Track and report on test coverage and quality metrics, helping the team make informed decisions about release readiness.
You Should Apply If You Have
- Previous QA automation experience in one or more areas: web, mobile, API, database, performance or security testing.
- Strong troubleshooting and investigation skills, with experience creating clear test plans and test cases.
- Problem-solving and coding ability in a language such as JavaScript/TypeScript, Python or Java, used to build and maintain automated test cases.
- Experience with modern test automation frameworks (e.g. Playwright, Cypress, WebdriverIO, Appium or similar).
- Experience testing RESTful or GraphQL APIs, with tools such as Postman; exposure to contract testing (e.g. Pact) is a bonus.
- Experience with functional, integration and regression testing, and comfortable embedding these into CI/CD pipelines.
- Comfortable working in a startup environment - happy being involved in multiple projects, adapting as priorities shift, and getting stuck in beyond your core remit.
- Genuine interest in using AI tools to accelerate test creation, test data generation and exploratory testing, and to keep evolving how AI supports your QA workstream.
