About the role

We’re looking for a hands‑on technical Head of Engineering to lead and grow our engineering organization at Hyperlayer. As we navigate a landscape of exciting changes and growth, this position offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of financial technology, shaping the future of our industry through cutting‑edge software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor and scale a high‑performing engineering team with a strong focus on server‑side systems.
  • Stay hands‑on with design, architecture and engineering, setting a high technical bar and leading by example.
  • Build and optimise high‑throughput, low‑latency applications that power critical financial services.
  • Ensure systems are designed for availability, resilience, scalability and security in line with enterprise engineering standards.
  • Drive technical decision‑making, architecture and roadmap in close collaboration with Product Design and other departments, ensuring alignment across the business.
  • Communicate complex technical topics clearly and persuasively to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders, bridging business and engineering.
  • Partner with leadership and other departments to deliver solutions that balance technical excellence, customer needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Navigate the challenges of building in a regulated industry, ensuring compliance without compromising innovation.

You should apply if you have

  • Proven experience leading engineering teams, ideally in fintech, payments or similarly demanding domains.
  • Deep technical expertise in Go (Golang) and distributed systems.
  • A track record of delivering mission‑critical, high‑performance platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise‑grade systems: HA, fault tolerance, observability and operational excellence.
  • Experience working with (or adjacent to) regulated industries such as finance, banking or insurance.
  • An inspiring leader who is as comfortable coding as they are setting strategy and coaching teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to articulate complex technical concepts to engineers, executives and external partners alike.
