Hi I’m Rich Ashworth, Director of Engineering at hyperexponential. I lead the Model Authoring value stream that owns the products our customers use to write and manage their pricing models. An actuary might start with an Excel rater and finish with a Python model that has been reviewed, approved, and is pricing live business. Our job is to turn that into an exceptional user experience and make every step of that credible enough to trust. I'm hiring a Staff Product Engineer to help set our technical direction and build the next version of our products. It's an individual contributor role, but influence is a huge part of it: the standards the pods work to, the shared enablers underneath the product, and the interfaces where our problems meet other teams. You’ll be hands-on where the risk is highest. There's no established playbook for any of this, but there’s an incredible opportunity in front of us. If this sounds like a role that would excite you, I'd love to hear from you.
About hyperexponential (hx): At hyperexponential, we're building the AI-powered platform that enables the world's most critical decisions in a 7 trillion industry, which risks to take, and how to price them. These are the decisions that shape real-world outcomes: whether rockets successfully launch into space, autonomous vehicles make it to market, or communities recover after major storms. Until now, insurance has been making billion-pound decisions using outdated tools. We're changing that. Our platform brings together data, AI, and human expertise to give insurers the fastest path from submission to decision - helping them move faster, act smarter, and take on more risk with confidence.
About the Model Authoring team: Model Authoring owns the products our customers use to write and manage their pricing models: the model developer experience and our actuarial agent. The team is distributed across our Warsaw and London offices. As the Staff Product Engineer, you will help set the team's technical direction. This is an individual contributor role, but influence is a large part of it: you'll help define the standards the team works to, raise the technical bar across pods, and own the interfaces where our problems meet those of teams elsewhere in Technology. You'll be expected to move fast and start shaping technical conversations early. We work in an AI-native way, and you'll help define and evolve what that means here.
What you'll be doing:
- Establish a set of engineering standards across the Model Authoring pods.
- Set and own the technical direction for the team's shared enablers.
- Establish the technical interfaces between Model Authoring and other parts of the business.
- Work hands-on on the hardest problems in the stream.
- Help define how we work in an AI-native way.
- Visibly lift the engineers around you.
What you'll need to have done:
- Worked in an AI-native environment.
- Been product-focused rather than purely technical.
- Set technical direction while navigating genuine ambiguity.
- Owned a significant technical challenge or service end to end.
- Influenced across teams.
- Worked effectively across distributed teams.
Nice to have:
- Developer experience work, ideally having built tools for developers or actuaries.
You're unlikely to thrive here if:
- You'd rather focus purely on the technical problem than get close to users.
- You're not comfortable setting technical direction in ambiguity.
- You're not excited about helping define what the future of software engineering looks like.
Compensation: At hx, we're committed to salary transparency. You'll always have clarity on pay early in the process. Our approach is to design compensation that's competitive in the market, fair across teams, and aligned with the impact our people make. Equity: We offer equity across all roles at hx, making it a significant component of total compensation.
Benefits:
- 5,000 training and conference budget for individual and group development.
- 25 days of holiday plus 8 bank holidays (33 days total).
- Company pension scheme via Penfold.
- Mental health support and therapy via Spectrum.life.
- Individual wellbeing allowance via Juno.
- Private healthcare insurance through AXA.
- Income protection and Life Insurance.
- Cycle to Work Scheme.
Additional perks:
- Top-spec equipment (laptop, screens, adjustable desks, etc.).
- Regular remote and in-person hackathons, lunch and learns, socials, and game nights.
- Team breakfasts and lunches, snacks, drinks fridge, and a fun office at The Ministry.
- Exceptional opportunities for personal development and growth.

- Talent Partner Screen (30 minutes)
- Hiring Manager Interview (60 minutes)
- Skills Assessment (2 hours)
- Values Interview with Tech Leadership (60 minutes)

How to prepare for a job interview at hyperexponential
✨Brush Up on Your Coding Skills
For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.
✨Know Your Tools and Frameworks
Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. ✨Prepare for Behavioural Questions
While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
