About the Engineering Velocity team

Engineering at hx powers every breakthrough that transforms how insurers make billion-dollar decisions. Our Engineering Velocity team sits at the heart of this mission, making sure our developers can build faster, ship smarter, and operate with confidence. We\’ve already integrated AI tools like Codeium and Windsurf IDE across engineering workflows, but we\’re just getting started.

As an AI Engineer in the Engineering Velocity team, you\’ll lead the charge on AI enablement across our entire engineering organisation. This isn\’t about following a playbook – you\’ll be defining how AI transforms developer productivity at hx, from automating the mundane to reimagining how complex problems get solved.

You\’ll work directly with some of the sharpest engineering minds in the industry, building tools and workflows that don\’t just make individual developers more productive, but fundamentally change how teams collaborate, ship, and scale. What you\’ll be doing

• Design and deploy AI-powered developer tools that automate repetitive tasks, accelerate decision-making, and measurably improve engineering productivity across teams.

• Lead the technical strategy for AI adoption in engineering workflows, evaluating emerging tools, running pilots, and scaling the solutions that deliver real impact.

• Build internal platforms and tooling that make AI accessible to developers at all levels, from code review automation to intelligent testing frameworks.

• Drive cultural change around AI-first development practices, running workshops, sharing knowledge, and helping engineers integrate AI into their daily workflows.

• Collaborate across engineering teams to identify pain points, prototype solutions, and deliver tools that solve real problems rather than theoretical ones.

• Push the boundaries of what\’s possible with AI in software development, staying ahead of the curve and bringing cutting-edge techniques to production at hx.

What you\’ll need to have done

• Built production internal tooling that demonstrably improved developer productivity, ideally across multiple engineering teams in a scale-up environment.

• Applied AI/LLMs to real developer workflows with hands-on experience using tools like PyTorch, Hugging Face Transformers, or similar frameworks to solve practical engineering problems.

• Delivered robust DevOps and cloud infrastructure using AWS, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and containerisation – you know how to build systems that scale reliably.

• Programmed extensively in Python with deep knowledge of its AI/ML ecosystem, plus the ability to work across multiple languages and adapt quickly to new tech stacks.

• Driven projects from idea to adoption, taking ownership of complex initiatives, navigating ambiguity, and delivering measurable results that teams actually use.

• Influenced technical decisions across teams through clear communication, collaborative problem-solving, and the ability to make AI concepts accessible to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Compensation

At hx, we\’re committed to salary transparency. You\’ll always have clarity on pay early in the process – our Talent Partner will share details with you during initial conversations – and we\’re working towards publishing salary information for all roles globally.

Because we\’re building at the intersection of technology/SaaS and insurance, our roles don\’t always map neatly onto traditional benchmarks. Our approach is to design compensation that\’s competitive in the market, fair across teams, and aligned with the impact our people make.
