ROLE OVERVIEWAn exciting opportunity for a Protein Scientist to join a leading biotechnology company specializing in drug discovery and development.

Based within a cutting-edge research environment, this full-time, fixed-term contract role offers the chance to work on innovative projects aimed at addressing neurological and oncology disorders.

The successful candidate will be integral to supporting structural biology and biophysical studies, contributing to the progression of new therapeutic candidates.

This laboratory-based position will involve working on diverse protein systems, including membrane proteins and multi-protein complexes, to enable high-quality protein expression and purification for structural studies such as cryo-EM and X-ray crystallography.

You will collaborate with internal teams and external partners to advance drug discovery projects and push forward scientific innovations.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESYour duties as the Protein Scientist will be varied; however, the key duties and responsibilities are as follows: Support all activities related to the expression, purification, and characterisation of challenging protein targets to facilitate structural biology and biophysical studies.

Develop and optimise robust protocols for recombinant protein production from prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems, ensuring high purity and homogeneity.

Operate and maintain chromatography systems, and apply expertise to characterise proteins for structural and functional suitability.

Enable the generation of integral membrane proteins and multi-protein complexes suitable for advanced imaging techniques and bioassays.

As the Protein Scientist, you will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary project teams and external partners to support project progression from ‘gene to structure’.

ROLE REQUIREMENTSTo be successful in your application to this exciting role as the Protein Scientist we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history: A Degree or higher level in a relevant scientific field (e. g., Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Protein Science).

Proven experience in recombinant protein expression and purification in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems.

Familiarity with chromatographic techniques including affinity, ion exchange, and size exclusion chromatography.

Experience in characterising proteins for structural studies and working with integral membrane proteins or multi-protein complexes.

Excellent communication and team working skills.
