You will be responsible for managing a diverse and challenging caseload of complex planning applications and appeals, helping to deliver sustainable growth and regeneration across the borough.
Responsibilities
- Manage a diverse and challenging caseload of complex planning applications and appeals.
- Assess planning proposals, provide professional planning advice, and negotiate positive outcomes.
- Work closely with applicants, developers, elected members, and other stakeholders to secure high‑quality development that enhances Hyndburn's communities.
- Deliver timely, well‑reasoned decisions on a wide range of development proposals.
- Assist the Planning Manager in the effective operation of the Development Management and Planning Enforcement service.
- Mentor and support junior colleagues, assisting their development.
- Use planning and development management IT systems to support work and provide excellent customer service.
- Conduct site visits, attend meetings, and maintain professional relationships with stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Member of the RTPI or actively working towards membership.
- Experience managing a wide range of complex development proposals.
- Strong understanding of the planning system and relevant legislation.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and organisational skills.
- Confident in the use of planning and development management IT systems.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for site visits and meetings.
- Career Path
- Progression beyond the first pay increment of the Senior Planning Officer post will be linked to achieving RTPI Chartered Membership.
- At Principal Planning Officer level, RTPI membership is essential. The role includes managing a caseload of major planning applications and leading the team.
