We are seeking a proactive and customer-focused Housing Advice & Homelessness Officer, playing a vital role in preventing and relieving homelessness across the borough. You will work directly with residents who are homeless or threatened with homelessness, building trusting and productive relationships that enable you to persuade, influence and support customers to make positive and realistic housing choices.
You will assess and investigate homeless approaches and applications in accordance with the Council’s statutory duties under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996, relevant case law, and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017. This includes developing, reviewing and implementing Personalised Housing Plans and actively supporting customers to prevent or relieve homelessness through meaningful interventions. On occasion this may mean dealing with vulnerable people with complex and challenging needs.
The ideal candidate will have 3 years’ experience of offering housing advice or similar, to the public, including the achievement of appropriate solutions to housing needs problems including the prevention of homelessness. In addition, candidates will be required to demonstrate:
- A positive attitude and motivated to help vulnerable people
- Strong inter‑personal skills when dealing with clients
- The ability to work as part of a team but also use your own initiative to work effectively without supervision
- Ability to consider creative ways to resolve the clients particular housing issue
