As a Project Manager within our Data Journey team, you’ll work alongside cross‑functional and multi‑disciplinary teams across the firm, leading a varied portfolio of client projects. These will include GMP equalisation, buy‑in / buy‑out readiness, benefit rectification, wind‑ups and other complex pensions data projects. You’ll play a key role in ensuring that high‑quality, efficient services are delivered to our private sector clients, providing strong leadership, oversight and direction across the full project lifecycle. This is a highly collaborative role, combining strategic planning, stakeholder management and hands‑on project delivery.

Key tasks

  • Overall responsibility for the strategic planning and day‑to‑day management of a portfolio of client projects of varying size, complexity and duration.
  • Working closely with lead consultants, project co‑ordinators and clients to capture and agree strategic requirements, define objectives, scope and key milestones.
  • Establishing, embedding and maintaining robust project governance and reporting frameworks with clients and key stakeholders.
  • Overseeing and managing workflow across internal teams to avoid bottlenecks and support efficient delivery.
  • Proactive stakeholder management, including developing, monitoring and implementing stakeholder management plans.
  • Creating and maintaining comprehensive project documentation aligned to each stage of the project lifecycle.
  • Undertaking initial risk assessments, implementing mitigating actions and ensuring effective management of risks and issues through to conclusion.
  • Adapting to and embedding new processes and ways of working to meet evolving client needs.
  • Monitoring and maintaining project plans to ensure delivery on time, within scope and on budget.
  • Chairing and facilitating a range of project meetings, from internal core delivery calls through to senior client steering group meetings.
  • Applying appropriate change control processes to manage and verify changes to scope, schedule and/or budget.
  • Managing project budgets, monitoring actual spend and taking corrective action where required.
  • Supporting the wider strategic objectives of the project management team, including input into proposition development.
  • Leading the Data Journey Project Management team.
  • Mentoring and coaching Project Co‑ordinators, with potential line management responsibilities.
  • Maintaining up‑to‑date knowledge of project management tools, techniques and industry best practice.
  • Undertaking relevant training to support ongoing professional development.
  • Adhering to the firm’s information security, professional and quality standards, including peer review processes.
  • Developing and maintaining a strong understanding of the firm’s products and services.

To enjoy and succeed in this role, you will have:

  • A proven track record of managing complex programmes or portfolios of projects, alongside client‑facing consulting experience.
  • The ability to build strong, trusted relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • The capability to quickly develop an understanding of pensions data projects; prior pensions knowledge is an advantage but not essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence effectively at all levels.
  • Strong organisational skills with a proactive, solution‑focused approach.
  • Experience working in fast‑paced environments and remaining calm under pressure.
  • The ability to prioritise workloads effectively, meet deadlines and delegate appropriately.
  • Strong leadership skills and a collaborative approach to working within cross‑functional teams.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Resilience and confidence when working with challenging stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial awareness and business understanding.
  • Demonstrable experience in a project or programme management role, or similar.
  • Significant experience managing multiple concurrent and complex projects.
  • Experience of Agile delivery methodologies (desirable).
  • Strong evidence of effective stakeholder management, both internally and externally.
  • PRINCE2 (or equivalent) qualification and/or experience using PRINCE methodologies.
  • Confident use of project management tools and relevant software.
  • Experience within financial services or an employee benefits consultancy (advantageous).
