The Investment business unit is a key part of our consulting services and is firmly established as a UK market leader. We currently advise on around £200bn of assets for a diverse client base, providing full investment consulting services to DB pension trustees and sponsors across a wide range of sectors, as well as LGPS and other public sector clients.

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Research Consultant to play a leading role in delivering high‑quality investment research and insight that supports client advice and the wider business. You’ll contribute to both client‑led and business‑as‑usual research across asset classes, maintain up‑to‑date market views, and develop clear, fit‑for‑purpose research outputs within agreed priorities and timelines. You’ll also help shape what we do next—generating and progressing new ideas for research development, working closely with workflow managers, stream delivery leads, consultants and proposition owners to assess client need, commercial relevance and deliverability. Alongside this, you’ll build strong relationships with consultants and industry contacts, share knowledge across the team, support the development of junior researchers, and act as a visible and credible representative of our research views across the investment and pensions marketplace. We are open to considering candidates on a part time or full‑time basis.

Responsibilities

  • Providing high‑quality, credible manager research and insight to clients and internal consultants
  • Developing and maintaining research frameworks, methodologies and market views within your agreed area of focus
  • Supporting the production of client papers for manager searches, monitoring and reviews
  • Producing clear, insightful manager commentary that strengthens client advice
  • Supporting the planning, prioritisation and resourcing of manager research projects
  • Building strong working relationships with internal consultants and key stakeholders
  • Managing and following agreed manager research and search procedures, including LGPS requirements where applicable
  • Contributing new research ideas and approaches within agreed governance processes
  • Supporting the team’s external profile through appropriate industry engagement
  • Delivering research efficiently and to deadline, working within agreed controls and audit requirements

Key Tasks

  • Leading client‑led and BAU research across asset classes
  • Producing high‑quality outputs for manager searches, monitoring and reviews
  • Partnering with consultants and workflow leads to shape research priorities
  • Keeping market views current and research frameworks robust
  • Coaching and developing junior researchers where appropriate
  • Supporting external engagement and knowledge sharing

Qualifications

  • Excellent research skills and commercial awareness
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • A flexible, proactive and innovative approach
  • A collaborative working style aligned to our values – friendly, partnering, straightforward and confident
  • Leadership qualities and the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly
  • Relevant qualifications such as FFA/FIA or CFA and strong UK pensions market knowledge

We would also encourage applications from candidates who may not possess all the attributes and experience listed above but are competent with the majority and would be able to quickly develop the additional skills and experience required in post with our full support. We would also love to hear about other knowledge and experience you may have that is not listed but could be of interest.

Benefits

  • A flexible selection of employee benefits, so you can choose a package that best matches your lifestyle and needs.
  • A collaborative and encouraging work environment where your thinking and ideas are encouraged.
  • On‑site mental health and wellbeing assistance.
  • A commitment to helping you develop both personally and professionally, with mentoring opportunities and access to our award‑winning learning portal, Aspire.
  • Regular social activities, in addition to three days paid volunteering leave each year and a day’s leave to celebrate your birthday.
  • Hybrid working so you can enjoy the positive wellbeing of working from home as well as the benefits of meeting colleagues in our sociable, modern office environments – with the expectation of two ‘in‑office’ days per week.
  • A flexible working window, allowing colleagues the freedom to work flexibly between the hours of 7 am and 7 pm.

Please note, we recruit on a rolling basis so early applications are recommended to avoid disappointment.
