Actuarial Technician Apprentice - Public Sector
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Actuarial Public team as an Actuarial Technician Apprentice, which will give you the chance to develop your skills whilst completing the Level 4 Actuarial Technician Qualification through BPP.
This is a permanent role within our firm. The apprenticeship is designed to take approximately 27 months to complete the qualification. Upon completion, you will have further opportunities to grow and develop your career across our team.
Responsibilities
- Support the Public Sector team in delivering high-quality work to our clients, including administering authorities of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) and participating employers.
- Build your technical skills and understanding of actuarial work while working alongside experienced colleagues.
- Gain hands-on experience across key areas such as pensions calculations, data analysis and reporting.
- Assist in the preparation of actuarial calculations for LGPS funding valuations and accounting work, using specialist software.
- Check data for accuracy, prepare it for analysis and support colleagues in running actuarial models.
- Support senior colleagues with the preparation of reports and client deliverables, delivering an exceptional client service.
- Maintain clear and well-organised records of your work to support good practice and meet internal standards.
- Work with a designated in-house mentor to reflect on your progress and support your development alongside your apprenticeship studies.
- Follow the firm’s policies and standards, including those relating to information security and data protection.
Qualifications and Skills
- Educated to at least secondary school level, having achieved 3 SQA Highers (or equivalent), including Higher Maths at grade B (or be expecting to achieve these grades within this year’s results).
- Proactive, self-motivating, using initiative to get tasks done and manage time effectively.
- Working quickly and accurately, with good attention to detail.
- Strong communicator and team player, excited to collaborate with colleagues across different areas of the firm.
- Keen to support exceptional client service and learn continuously.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills, able to manage multiple demands.
- Enthusiastic about starting an actuarial career in Public Sector Consulting.
- Good level of IT skills (particularly MS Office, Excel and Outlook) or enthusiasm to learn more.
