The Vacancy

We're looking for a talented and experienced Design Manager to lead our in-house design team in either Glasgow, Edinburgh or London.

You will play a key role in shaping and evolving our visual brand across the business.

This is an exciting opportunity for a creative leader who is passionate about brand consistency, design excellence and developing high-performing teams.

You'll work closely with colleagues across Marketing, Digital, Bids, HR and the wider business, ensuring our brand is brought to life through high-quality, engaging and accessible creative solutions.

What will your role look like?

As Design Manager, you'll lead and develop our in-house design team, ensuring the delivery of exceptional creative work across a broad range of channels, including digital, social media, campaigns, reports, pitches and proposals, events and internal communications.

Working collaboratively with stakeholders across the business, you'll help translate creative briefs into effective design solutions that support business objectives, while continuously improving design processes, workflows and resource planning to ensure an efficient and high-performing function.

Though this is a varied role, your key tasks will include

  • Leading, coaching and developing our in-house design team to deliver high-quality creative work.
  • Owning and evolving Hymans Robertson's visual brand guidelines, templates and design systems.
  • Driving the ongoing implementation and adoption of our brand identity across the business.
  • Ensuring visual consistency and quality across all marketing, client and internal communications materials.
  • Managing workflow, prioritisation, capacity planning and resource allocation within the design team.
  • Collaborating with teams across Marketing, Digital, Content, Bids, HR and other business areas to deliver creative solutions that meet business objectives.
  • Maintaining and developing design assets, templates and toolkits to support business needs.
  • Championing accessibility, inclusivity and best practice across all design outputs.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve processes and implement tools, automation and AI solutions that enhance efficiency.
  • Managing external agencies, freelancers and suppliers where additional design support is required.

To enjoy and succeed in the role, you will have

  • Significant experience working within an in-house design environment, ideally within professional or financial services.
  • Proven experience leading, coaching and developing creative teams.
  • Experience supporting the implementation of a new or refreshed brand across multiple channels and audiences.
  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including In Design, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills and experience creating branded business documents and presentations.
  • A portfolio demonstrating excellence across brand identity, digital and social content, reports, campaigns and event collateral.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to confidently present and explain creative concepts.
  • Strong organisational and workflow management skills, with experience of managing multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design principles.
  • A collaborative mindset, high attention to detail and a passion for delivering outstanding creative work.

We would also encourage applications from candidates who perhaps do not possess all the attributes and experience listed above but are competent with the majority and would be able to quickly develop the additional skills and experience required in post with our full support.

We would also love to hear about other knowledge and experience you may have that is not listed but could be of interest.

  • In addition to a competitive salary and access to our profit share scheme, we offer:
  • A flexible selection of employee benefits, so you can choose a package that best matches your lifestyle and needs.
  • A collaborative and encouraging work environment where your thinking and ideas are encouraged.
  • On site mental health and wellbeing assistance.
  • A commitment to helping you develop both personally and professionally, with mentoring opportunities and access to our award-winning learning portal, Aspire.
  • Regular social activities, in addition to three days paid volunteering leave each year and a day's leave to celebrate your birthday.
  • Hybrid working so you can enjoy the positive wellbeing of working from home as well as the benefits of meeting colleagues in our sociable, modern office environments - with the expectation of 40% of your working week in-office days.
  • A flexible working window, allowing colleagues the freedom to work flexibly between the hours of 7am and 7pm.

Please note, we recruit on a rolling basis so early applications are recommended to avoid disappointment.
