This is a permanent, full-time vacancy that will close in a month at 23:59 BST.

The Vacancy

Based in our Glasgow office, we are seeking a senior engineer to lead cloud infrastructure automation initiatives on Microsoft Azure. We are looking for an experienced professional with a strong operations background who can serve as a subject matter expert within multi-disciplinary Dev(Sec)Ops teams.

We are open to considering candidates on a part-time or full-time basis.

What will your role look like?

You will architect, build, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure cloud environments using Infrastructure as Code principles. You will leverage programming languages such as Python and TypeScript, automation tools like Bicep and Ansible, Azure DevOps for CI/CD pipelines, and Git for version control. Your expertise will span cloud PaaS/IaaS services, Windows and Linux systems, and containerised environments.

A key aspect of this position involves enabling engineering teams through knowledge sharing and creating automation solutions that make best practices the default choice, enhancing operational maturity, system reliability, and security posture across the organisation.

Key tasks include:

  • Architect, implement, and maintain automated, resilient infrastructure solutions within Microsoft Azure using Infrastructure as Code principles
  • Develop and maintain high-quality automation code to interact with cloud services APIs
  • Build, manage, and optimise CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps for automated testing, validation, and deployment of infrastructure changes
  • Configure and automate Azure networking components and system management across Windows, Linux, and containerised environments
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure, automation, and deployment pipeline issues
  • Serve as subject matter expert within multi-disciplinary DevOps teams, providing technical guidance and support to engineering teams
  • Collaborate with development, security, and operational teams to integrate infrastructure automation
  • Provide technical mentoring and guidance to the digital community
  • Champion best practices for infrastructure automation, operational procedures, and security standards
  • Establish processes and standards that improve quality, stability, and operational maturity
  • Contribute to technology strategy, business planning, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Drive adoption of automation solutions that make best practices the default across the organisation
  • Foster a DevOps culture that promotes team autonomy and engineering excellence
  • Engage in continuous learning to stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies
  • Evaluate and incorporate new technologies and methodologies

Requirements:

  • Proven experience managing and automating infrastructure within Microsoft Azure (IaaS and PaaS)
  • Strong programming skills in Python and TypeScript
  • Experience managing Windows Server and Linux systems
  • Understanding of Azure networking services and security best practices

Preferred skills:

  • Experience with MS Graph, Azure SDKs, CLI, and automation tools
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code principles with Bicep or ARM Templates
  • Proficiency with Azure DevOps pipelines and Git
  • Familiarity with containerisation (Docker) and orchestration platforms
  • Knowledge of scripting languages like PowerShell or Bash
  • Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible
  • Understanding of software development and ITSM practices
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Azure Monitor
  • Experience in hybrid cloud environments
