Key Responsibilities
- Mechanical design of components including supports, interfaces, attachments, brackets, and related hardware.
- Develop, review, and continuously improve AIT procedures, work instructions, and test scripts, ensuring they accurately reflect the current design and incorporate lessons learned from previous integration campaigns.
- Execute and oversee mechanical integration activities including structural assembly, subsystem installation, harness routing, and fluid system connections, working to drawings and torque specifications.
- Plan and conduct functional and systems-level testing at each stage of integration.
- Apply and follow Quality Management System (QMS) workflows and documentation processes.
- Maintain comprehensive AIT records including build logs, test data sheets, non-conformance reports, and photographic evidence, ensuring all documentation is audit-ready and supports flight certification.
- Identify and manage integration issues and non-conformance and related corrective actions implementation.
- Support the planning and execution of launch campaign preparations.
Basic Qualifications
- Master’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering or comparable.
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on aerospace applications.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., NX, CATIA, SolidWorks).
- Experience developing or executing AIT procedures in aerospace or high-reliability industries.
- Familiarity with configuration management principles and the discipline to maintain accurate and complete build and test records throughout an integration campaign.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Fluent oral and written English, German is a plus.
Desired Experience
- Direct experience integrating and testing a launch vehicle, sounding rocket, or spacecraft through to flight readiness.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with practical experience in precision assembly, torque application, and installation of complex hardware to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Demonstrable hands-on experience in AIT roles within the aerospace industry, with involvement across the full integration lifecycle from subsystem level to vehicle or system level.
- Experience using PLM or MES systems for work order management, build record keeping, and configuration control is a plus.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations (e.g. ECSS, AS9100).
- Exposure to payload integration activities and experience managing payload customer interface requirements during vehicle integration.
- Good understanding of high-pressure system safety and the ability to work safely with pressurized fluid and gas systems during leak and proof testing activities is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with avionics integration and functional testing is a plus (e.g. harness verification, connector inspection, and end-to-end system checks).
