This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Fermentation Scientist to apply hands-on expertise in bioreactor operation, process optimisation and enzyme production while working alongside a collaborative R&D team on cutting-edge technology.
The Role
As a Fermentation Scientist, you will be responsible for developing and improving non-GMP microbial fermentation processes for enzyme production. You'll work across laboratory and pilot-scale systems, helping to optimise yields, improve process robustness and support the scale-up of innovative biocatalysts for industrial applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimise microbial fermentation processes for enzyme production.
- Operate, monitor and troubleshoot bench- to pilot-scale bioreactors.
- Design and carry out fermentation optimisation studies, including media, feeding and induction strategies.
- Analyse experimental data and communicate findings with clear technical recommendations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary R&D teams to support project delivery.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, SOPs and technical documentation.
- Support laboratory operations, equipment maintenance and inventory management.
- Assist with technology transfer to external manufacturing partners where required.
About You
We’re looking for someone with:
- A degree in Biology, Industrial Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering or a related scientific discipline.
- Proven industrial experience in non-GMP microbial fermentation.
- Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting microbial bioreactors.
- Knowledge of fermentation optimisation to improve enzyme yield, productivity and process robustness.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- A proactive approach with strong attention to detail and a passion for scientific innovation.
