We’re looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join Hykit, supporting the development of hydrogen infrastructure products for the construction equipment and agricultural sectors. This is an onsite role based in Bicester and an opportunity to work on complex mechanical design challenges within a growing clean technology business focused on practical, deployable hydrogen solutions.

The business operates in a fast-paced engineering environment, working closely with manufacturing, testing and supply chain teams to bring products from concept through to production and deployment.
The role
This role sits within the mechanical engineering team and is responsible for delivering high‑quality mechanical design work across Hykit’s product range. You’ll take ownership of assigned design packages, producing detailed engineering designs, drawings and documentation while supporting the wider product development lifecycle from concept through to production release. The role works closely with EC&I, manufacturing, testing and supplier teams, contributing to safe, certifiable and manufacturable hydrogen infrastructure products.
What you’ll be doing:
- Producing detailed mechanical designs, 3D models and engineering drawings using CAD software such as SolidWorks or CATIA
- Developing and maintaining BOMs, technical documentation and engineering records
- Supporting full product lifecycle delivery from concept through to production release
- Applying DFM and DFA principles to improve manufacturability and product quality
- Supporting design reviews, engineering risk assessments and FMEA activities
- Resolving mechanical engineering challenges relating to structural integrity, thermal management, sealing and pressure containment
- Supporting prototype builds, testing and validation activities
- Working closely with suppliers, manufacturing and cross‑functional engineering teams
- Supporting commissioning, installation and field deployment activities where required
- Contributing to continuous improvement of engineering standards, templates and processes
What we’re looking for:
- Degree‑qualified Mechanical Engineer (BEng or MEng)
- Strong experience within mechanical design or product development environments
- Strong CAD capability (SolidWorks, CATIA or equivalent)
- Experience producing detailed engineering drawings, assembly models and BOMs
- Understanding of fabrication, machining and manufacturing processes
- Familiarity with engineering change control and document management processes
- Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to work across multiple projects and priorities
- Experience within hydrogen, compressed gas, fluid handling, industrial equipment or adjacent sectors would be beneficial
- Familiarity with ATEX, PED or PSSR standards would be advantageous
- Chartered Engineer progression or aspirations desirable
