Hyatt Regency Birmingham is ideally located in the heart of the city centre, adjacent to Symphony Hall and within walking distance of the International Convention Centre (ICC), Brindley Place, and the Bullring shopping centre. This contemporary four-star hotel offers direct access to the vibrant canal-side area and is a short stroll from Birmingham New Street Station. The hotel features 319 spacious guest rooms and suites, 12 versatile event spaces, a modern restaurant, a traditional pub-style bar, and a luxurious spa with an indoor pool and fitness centre.
The Role
As an Assistant Events Manager, you will play a key role in delivering exceptional corporate and social events, ensuring operational excellence and outstanding guest experiences. Working closely with the Events Operations and Sales teams, you will coordinate event delivery, manage client expectations, and support the achievement of departmental revenue and service objectives.
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly organised and guest-focused individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for overseeing event operations, supporting team development, and ensuring all events are delivered in line with Hyatt standards and guest expectations.
This is a full-time, on-site role, working 40 hours per week. Due to the nature of the business, working hours will vary across Monday to Sunday, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required. You will also participate in the Duty Management schedule.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and oversee the seamless operation of corporate and social events.
Coordinate event planning and execution to ensure exceptional guest satisfaction.
Act as a key point of contact for event clients and internal stakeholders.
Liaise closely with the Sales team regarding event bookings, enquiries, and operational requirements.
Ensure all events are delivered in accordance with hotel standards, policies, and procedures.
Support stock control and inventory management within the Events department.
Assist with forecasting staffing requirements and scheduling team resources effectively.
Monitor event performance and identify opportunities to enhance service quality and operational efficiency.
Support the recruitment, training, development, and performance management of team members.
Conduct regular team briefings and ensure effective communication across departments.
Handle guest feedback and resolve issues promptly and professionally.
Support departmental revenue objectives through effective event operations and up-selling opportunities.
Maintain health and safety standards and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
Undertake Duty Management responsibilities in line with the hotel's management rota.
Qualifications
About You
To be successful in your application, you should have a proven track record of assisting in the management of a successful Events operation within a hotel environment. You will have a solid understanding of Event Operations, including conference, banquet, and social events, and be confident in identifying opportunities to enhance both guest satisfaction and operational efficiency.
With a keen eye for detail and a commitment to delivering exceptional guest experiences, you will be able to lead, motivate, and develop a team to achieve high standards. You will be passionate about hospitality and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same.
You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to build strong relationships with guests, clients, and colleagues across the hotel. The ability to effectively manage multiple priorities while maintaining high levels of service is essential.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications is required, and previous experience with event management or hotel operating systems would be advantageous. You will be well presented and possess excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
