Substance Misuse Nurse (Band 5/6 Development Role)

We are offering a Band 5/6 development opportunity as a Substance Misuse Nurse working as part of our i-access Community Drug and Alcohol Service in SW Surrey, based at Laurel House, Farnham Road Hospital, Guildford. The post holder will be proactive in reducing harm in line with the recovery agenda and advocate for service users in addressing their physical, mental health, and social care needs.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver 1:1 and group support for service users using drugs and alcohol as part of their Recovery Treatment Plan.
  • Develop and implement strength-based, person-centred recovery plans based on clear assessment of individual needs.
  • Manage a caseload including diary management, record keeping, care planning, risk assessments and safeguarding (children/adult, mental health, drug and alcohol issues).
  • Engage and manage service users with challenging behaviour and provide appropriate interventions.
  • Refer to other services where appropriate and work in partnership with agencies.
  • Provide clinical care for drug and alcohol dependency issues, including Opiate Substitution Therapy (OST) and Alcohol Treatment Pathways in the community.
  • Conduct medical reviews, BBV interventions, and community-based recovery support (e.g., SMART / Fellowship, i-access group programmes).
  • Provide high quality substance misuse information, advice, support, liaison, treatment and signposting.
  • Collaborate with the MDT, supervisors and service users to deliver quality 1:1 interventions, assessments and joint assessments.

Qualifications

  • Dynamic and professional nurse with genuine interest and empathy for people with drug and alcohol addiction.
  • Experience working within the substance misuse and/or mental health field (desirable).
  • Comfortable travelling to and working in a variety of settings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong team working across divisional and organisational boundaries.
  • Ability to develop and implement recovery plans and manage complex caseloads (including safeguarding).
