Our work in music royalties is well established and we support high‑profile artists, rights owners and their representatives.
We are seeking a Music Royalty Auditor with direct experience auditing royalty statements and reporting in the music industry, focusing on recorded music, publishing, and neighbouring rights, as well as other sectors such as television, sport, brand licensing, and fashion.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead or support royalty audits of record labels, publishers, licensees, and digital platforms.
- Interpret music industry agreements, including recording, publishing, and licensing contracts.
- Design and execute audit strategies tailored to each engagement.
- Analyse high volumes of usage, sales, and royalty data, including digital revenue reporting.
- Engage with auditees to obtain data, resolve queries, and clarify reporting methods.
- Prepare written reports detailing financial shortfalls or audit findings.
- Communicate audit conclusions clearly to clients, including legal, finance, and management teams.
- Contribute to the wider forensic team by supporting audits across other IP‑based sectors.
- Maintain awareness of developments in UK royalty reporting standards and digital licensing trends.
- Support and participate in business development discussions and follow‑up.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Proven experience in music royalty auditing is essential.
- Familiarity with recording and publishing contracts and understanding of royalty flows.
- Strong analytical and data‑handling skills, including advanced Excel.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working independently on multiple projects with tight deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and forensic mindset.
- ACA, ACCA or equivalent preferred but not essential.
- Genuine interest in music industry business models and commercial protection of rights.
