The Trusts team is a busy department of the firm within a large Private Client team dealing with a variety of trust work including preparing trust and estate accounts, trust and estate tax returns, and reporting inheritance tax events for over 500 trusts and estates. We are looking for a Senior Manager to oversee and run the Trusts team and work together with the Private Client Partners delivering complex tax advice. In this role, you will oversee the management and delivery of all trust compliance and reporting work, ensuring deadlines are met and high-quality standards are maintained. This is a hands-on leadership role offering the opportunity to make a significant impact within a busy and high-performing team, with the opportunity for progression within a large and award-winning Private Client team.
Responsibilities
- Monitoring all trusts to ensure the IHT compliance is actioned promptly, including ten yearly charges, exit charges and chargeable lifetime transfers
- Preparation of IHT returns for trusts and lifetime transfers
- Preparation of annual trust accounts for UK and offshore trusts, including charitable trusts
- Reviewing work prepared by more junior team members
- Training, supervising and mentoring junior team members, including annual appraisals
- Ensuring the department workload is accurately scheduled and managed over the course of a compliance season
- Delivering technical trust support and advice to colleagues and Partners
- Working with the Private Client Partners to identify ways to modernise and improve existing practices
- Represent the firm within the existing Sumer group for Trusts expertise
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
The successful candidate should ideally be CTA qualified and although not essential, STEP qualified and an understanding of Trust accounting would be advantageous. You should demonstrate the following qualities:
