The Role

As a Project Manager you will manage a portfolio of “Special Projects.” These scopes will include the cradle‑to‑grave project management of customer‑owned high‑voltage electrical networks consisting of UK‑wide Primary i DNO substations and/or associated grid connections.

As a Project Manager you will be responsible for the collective performance of the projects within your charge, in terms of safety, technical, quality, contract, commercial and risk control.

In addition, you will have suitable knowledge, training and experience to deliver a positive project outcome, and, with the support of the operations manager where necessary, manage risk and exposure associated with the project as far as reasonably practicable.

The work may be within the Midlands region or the wider United Kingdom. You may also be called upon to assist senior Project Managers when reasonably requested to do so.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent HVSS in a professional and articulate manner, at all times, to all stakeholders.
  • Ensure that all Special Projects being managed are delivered in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Manage change and variations.
  • Identify and manage risk proactively.
  • Write internal HVSS project‑specific RAMS where necessary.
  • Manage internal and external project resources such as suppliers and subcontractors as necessary.
  • Support the site manager where necessary and applicable.
  • Review, record and manage all subcontractor risk assessment and method statements (RAMS).
  • Maintain and manage site SHEQ documentation in line with HVSS policy.
  • Comply with project‑specific monthly SHEQ tours.
  • Undertake and record project‑specific quarterly SHEQ tours with a senior Project Manager.
  • Maintain project‑specific documentation in line with the company’s BMS.
  • Maintain a continual professional development (CPD) strategy.

Experience & Qualities

Essential

  • Proven reliable team player.
  • Management experience of project budgets and resources.
  • Experience managing reasonably complex projects, budgets, direct, indirect and specialist resources from within an M&E/Utility/T&D technical construction environment.
  • BTEC, NVQ Level 3 qualification in engineering, construction and/or management, and/or equivalent knowledge, training and experience.
  • Experience of managing projects classified as “notifiable” under the Construction, Design & Management Regulations 2015.
  • IOSH Managing Safely qualification, or equivalent, desirable.
  • Awareness of control, protection and automation schemes.
  • Experience delivering construction projects under formal construction practices.
  • High competence with MS Project, Word, Excel, Power Point and suitable cost and finance soft skills.
  • SMSTS certification.
  • TWS/TWC or working toward it if requested by the company.
  • EUSR, CSCS, ECS safety passport.

Desirable

  • APM, PMI or Prince 2 project management certification, or equivalent, or working toward it.
  • Knowledge and understanding of DNO/i DNO specifications and working practices.
  • Experience with JCT or NEC contracts.
  • Experience in projects classified as “notifiable” under the Construction, Design & Management Regulations 2015.
  • Exposure to Auto CAD.

  • Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm (40 hours per week).
