The Vice Chair Member Services is a key volunteer role within the HVA Executive Team with overall responsibility for delivery of Member Services – currently Networks, Exhibiting Events and Learning Support.

What difference will you make? By supporting and encouraging the volunteers that deliver member services, you will help HVA meet members' needs, help members develop as artists, and help HVA make visual arts accessible to all in Hertfordshire.

What are we looking for?

  • Strong organising, leadership and team-working skills
  • Experience and a good understanding of Event management; Project planning and control (including budget analysis); Risk assessment and management.
  • Able to empower, motivate and encourage volunteers in different teams, and to build new teams - drawing from HVA members as well as external expertise where needed.
  • Competent in the use of MS Word and Excel.

What will you be doing? HVA is at its heart a membership organisation focused on offering a range of services which support, encourage, promote and help its members to develop. The Vice Chair Member Services is a core member of the HVA Executive Team reporting to and supporting the HVA Chair, working in parallel with the Vice Chair (Marketing), Membership Secretary, and with other members of the Executive Team.

HVA Member Services comprise:

  • Networking in our Area Groups and Special Interest Groups
  • Exhibiting Events including Art Fairs and Open Studios
  • Learning Support Webinars for those taking part in Exhibitions
  • Training to help members develop as artists
  • Annual Conference (in person)
  • AGM (online)

Responsibilities:

  • To support and encourage Area Coordinators and Special Interest Group Leaders, helping them build strong groups.
  • To offer project guidance, advice and support to Event Teams enabling them to create effective events to agreed standards and to break even.
  • To plan key events in the HVA calendar which will help members to learn and develop as artists.

Interfaces with:

  • Fundraising Team to obtain sponsorships/advertising to offset event costs and to apply for grant support.
  • Treasury Team to arrange payments to suppliers and to pass on money received for sales at art fairs.
  • Marketing Team to agree campaigns promoting HVA Events and other Member Services and to provide input to press releases, social media, newsletters and other publications.
  • Membership Secretary to receive input on the expectations as members join HVA in terms of learning, development and support.
