We’re recruiting an experienced Data Centre Manager to take full operational ownership of two live data centre sites in the North West. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role responsible for site performance, team management, client satisfaction, compliance, and commercial outcomes. The successful candidate must live within a 1-hour off-peak commute of the Manchester site to support out-of-hours escalations when required.
The Role
You will be accountable for the day-to-day operation of both data centres, ensuring availability, safety, compliance, and service excellence while leading on people management, budgets, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Full operational ownership of both data centre sites
- Line management of site engineering and technical teams (M&E and Data Centre Services)
- Ensure 24/7 operational resilience, availability, and compliance
- Ownership of Health & Safety, security, and statutory compliance
- Manage PPM schedules and specialist subcontractor contracts
- Control Opex and input into Capex planning and forecasting
- Lead incident, change, and problem management processes
- Drive energy efficiency and cooling optimisation (PUE improvements)
- Maintain site documentation, risk registers, and compliance records
- Act as senior site contact for clients, stakeholders, and internal teams
- Host client visits and support new business opportunities
Essential Experience
- Data Centre / Critical Environment operations experience
- Strong people management background
- Client-facing experience in mission-critical environments
- Good understanding of data centre infrastructure (power, cooling, mechanical & electrical systems)
- Experience managing maintenance contracts and suppliers
Desirable
- Budget management experience
- ITIL or Data Centre certification
- M&E background or strong technical understanding
Qualifications
- Degree level or equivalent experience
- Full UK Driving Licence
Package
- Base salary up to £65,000
