Air Conditioning Installation Engineer
£34,000–£43,500 + Paid Travel + Overtime + Company Van
Location:North East – Nationwide Travel
Job Type:Permanent, Full-Time
Hours:Monday to Friday, 40 Hours
We are recruiting for an experienced Air Conditioning Installation Engineer to join a growing specialist contractor delivering commercial and industrial projects across the UK.
This is a95% installation role, working mainly on splits, multi-splits and VRV/VRF systems. It involves regular nationwide travel and working away, so it will not suit someone looking for a local service and maintenance route.
What You’ll Receive
- Salary of £34,000–£43,500
- Company van and fuel card
- Travel paid door-to-door, minus 30 minutes each way
- Overtime paid at 1.5x after 40 hours
- Paid 30-minute lunch break
- Airbnb accommodation when working away
- Own bedroom and access to cooking facilities
- £20 per night working-away allowance
- 20 days’ holiday plus bank holidays
- Company pension
- Specialist tools supplied
- Progression towards Project Supervisor positions
Longer 10–11-hour days are normally available when working away, allowing engineers to increase their overtime earnings.
Requirements
- F-Gas Category 1
- Full UK driving licence
- Commercial air-conditioning installation experience
- Experience with splits, multi-splits and VRV/VRF systems
- Able to run or lead installation work
- Pressure testing, evacuation, charging and commissioning experience
- High standard of pipework, containment and finished installations
- Comfortable travelling nationwide and regularly staying away
An NVQ in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration would be beneficial but is not essential. Proven ability and installation experience are more important.
The Role
The workload is approximately:
- 70% commercial, including offices and hotels
- 25% industrial, including large warehouse environments
- 5% domestic installations
Your responsibilities will include:
- Installing commercial air-conditioning systems
- Reading drawings and working from specifications
- Planning and organising installations
- Installing pipework, containment and associated equipment
- Pressure testing, evacuation and refrigerant charging
- Commissioning completed systems
- Identifying and ordering materials
- Leading installations alongside an AC mate or trainee
- Completing installation and commissioning paperwork
- Liaising with clients while on site
You will work on equipment from leading manufacturers including Mitsubishi, Toshiba, Daikin and Midea.
Projects are surveyed and organised before you arrive on site. You will then be trusted to manage the day-to-day installation and deliver the work to a high technical and visual standard.
Salary
The salary offered will reflect the level at which you can operate.
Engineers who require some support will sit toward the lower end of the range. The upper end is available for someone who can independently run larger installations, organise materials, commission systems and complete projects without regular supervision.
There is genuine progression available as the business grows, including the opportunity to move into a Project Supervisor position with less time spent on the tools.
