Working for a traditional old school Mechanical contractor based in the east midlands. The role would be ideal for someone who wants to travel less and not be ‘on-call’. The company employs 8 commercial gas engineers who all work locally on a range of commercial buildings including schools, colleges, leisure centres and commercial offices and buildings.
During the winter you will be working primarily on breakdown and repair of commercial gas boilers, so a good ability to fault-find and repair / reactive maintenance experience is desired. During the warmer summer months you will be focusing on service, maintenance, testing and purging and general routine maintenance on commercial gas boilers. There are some project works in the summer, these might include a commercial gas boiler swap or plant room refurbishment.
The vast majority of the sites are very local, however if you do have to travel further afield for a project, all travel time will be covered. You will be working from 8am – 4.30pm and will generally meet at the office to pick up an apprentice and have a brew before heading to site. It is a close-knit team of engineers including a couple of keen golfers.
The company does social events in the summer and at Christmas, this could include a day at the races or a local sporting event. There is training on offer including testing & purging training or specific manufacturer training if desired. You will be rewarded with a competitive basic depending on your specific skill set, a new company van which can be used in your spare time under their ‘fair use policy’.
There is overtime available should you choose to do it, and you can volunteer to be on call to increase your earnings, although this is not compulsory. You will need relevant commercial gas tickets. If you want to work for a traditional, friendly company without the stresses of travel and call-out, this could be ideal for you. Many engineers stay with this company for 12-15 years.
