A privately-owned, Southwest-based mechanical services contractor with over 60 years of heritage is looking for an experienced Heating Service Engineer to join a small, trusted team. This is a business built on reputation, not volume – their engineers stay for years (many for over a decade) and their client list reads like a who's who of the region's finest commercial and high-end private accounts.
The Role
You’ll be largely self-managed, running your own diary across a well-established book of commercial and select high-end domestic clients. Work is predominantly planned maintenance and reactive fault-finding on Natural Gas, LPG, and Oil systems – mainly on commercial and industrial sites. No install work required; there’s a dedicated installation team for that.
Day-to-day you’ll be:
- Carrying out fault-finding, maintenance, repairs, and annual servicing
- Managing your own schedule with full autonomy – no micromanagement
- Covering Bristol, Bath, Gloucester, and Swindon (occasional Taunton/Oxford)
- Participating in a 1-in-5 on-call rota (5pm–8am weekdays, weekends)
Why Engineers Love It Here
- Self-managed role – you own your diary, no one breathing down your neck
- Premium client base – National Trust, stately homes, high-spec commercial accounts
- Long-tenured team – most engineers have been here 10+ years
- Modern full Transit van with CarPlay/screen – personal use allowed
- Genuine upskilling commitment – F-Gas, LPG, Oil and more funded by the company
- No install work – pure service and maintenance
- Plenty of optional overtime if you want to boost your earnings
The Package
- £48,000 – £54,000 basic (negotiable DOE and qualifications)
- 40 hours p/w + overtime available (evenings, weekends, away trips)
- 1-in-5 on-call: £100 standby fee + paid callout hours
- Overtime rates: time-and-a-half after 6pm/Saturdays, double time Sundays & bank holidays
- 30 mins each way travel time paid
- Modern company Transit van (personal use allowed, P11D)
- iPhone provided
- Full PPE supplied
- 25 days holiday + bank holidays
- Sick pay
- NEST pension
- Dedicated training and upskilling matrix
Location
Ideally located within 45 minutes of Bristol (BS16). The role is predominantly across Bristol, Bath, Swindon, and Gloucester. Occasional travel to Taunton, Oxford, and very rarely further afield for specific clients.
